2017 Chrism Liturgies From Bishop William O. Gafkjen:
The locations for these liturgies have been chosen after a great deal of conversation and thought. As we have moved away from ten such liturgies each Lent to four or five, we have tried to move them around in a way that ensures that as many folks as possible have access to one. Thanks to our geography, this is a challenging task which was complicated a bit this year by the effort to do up to four of the liturgies with our Episcopal sisters and brothers.  Read more or RSVP for your date and location here

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
(8th Commandment)

As we move through this 500th year since the beginning of the Reformation, many of us are renewing our acquaintance with various writings and resources from and about that medieval movement that changed the church and impacted the world. A great place to begin is with Martin Luther's Small Catechism. A great time to begin is the season of Lent.

Local faith communities might shape Wednesday worship around sections of the catechism or add a brief time for exploration and discussion of the catechism before or after worship. Families could briefly read and discuss parts of it once or twice a week before saying grace at dinner. Individuals might slowly read through, meditate on, and journal about the catechism in devotional time two or three times a week. Read more or download a copy to share with your congregation.

Mission Ambassadors
Have you thought of how a Mission Ambassador in your congregation could help your congregation in its ministry? Mission Ambassadors tell the story of how we are doing God's work together through our congregation, the Synod and agencies of the ELCA. A Mission Ambassador connects your congregation members to the work of their Church, giving them a greater understanding of how their gifts of time and money are used to carry forward God's mission.

This ministry of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod is less than a year old and is beginning to reach into several congregations of our Synod, but our goal is to have a Mission Ambassador in every one of our congregations and we rely on you to help bring this about. Please take the time to learn more about what a Mission Ambassador does and what gifts are useful in their work. You can find this and other information at the Synod's Mission Interpretation website

Most of these audits can be done internally by people in your congregation; on occasion it is also good to have an external audit done by someone outside your congregation. For more information, please see the ELCA guide located here
Also, Chris and Julie Walda are available to do external audits or to help with your internal audits; you can reach them at [email protected].

CHURCH-WIDE NEWS

Who's work is it?

"God's work. Our hands." Sunday
This special day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. The suggested date for the 2017 dedicated day of service is Sunday, Sept. 10. Mark your calendars today! If your congregation cannot participate on this date, please consider another day.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ - every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life - flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God's grace.

You work every day to make your community a better place. Let us continue doing this work together in 2017! View the video and access resources to guide your congregation's planning, promotion and more.
