Lenten Season of J.O.Y.

On Wednesday, Garces celebrated Ash Wednesday with a special Mass celebrated by Garces Rector, Msgr. Perry Kavookjian.  Msgr. Perry shared with the students that this year Garces is celebrating Lent with J.O.Y. - Jesus, Others, Yourself.  Msgr. Perry asked students, faculty and staff to put Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last.  He asked that they pray to Jesus daily, to do for Others through service or tithing to those in need, and for themselves - to make Lenten sacrifices.

We hope you will join us in our Lenten Season of J.O.Y.

Garces Jazz Concert

The Garces Band put on a fabulous Jazz Concert Thursday night.  They held an informal concert in the Art of Music building on campus and the room was packed. The program included 14 jazz numbers with four soloists performing; Joseph Berchtold on saxophone, Alexandra Moreno on clarinet, Evan Smith on baritone, and Kim Briggs on flute. It was a really special night on our campus.  It was wonderful to see all the long hours of practice, dedication and commitment by the students, Mr. Smith, Mr. Ortega, and off-campus music volunteers result in a truly exceptional concert.  Next up is the Dinner Concert on March 23rd in MLH.  Tickets are available at the front desk or you can contact Band Director, Scott Smith.

Still have Parent Service Involvement hours you need to complete?  A contribution to The Garces Fund can help you fulfill that 20 hour requirement.  For every $15 contributed, you receive one PSI hour.
Parent Service Involvement Hours

Remember all Parent Service Involvement hours are due by March 15th.  If you have not completed your required 20 hours of service for this year, timers are needed for swim meets.  You can contact Joan Finch for times and locations.

For families who have not fulfilled their 20 hours of service your April Smart Tuition bill will reflect the # of hours x $15.   Remember, if you make a contribution to the Garces Fund to cover the amount due, it is considered a charitable contribution.

Contact Tonya Abbott with any questions regarding your PSI balance.

Message from
Steve Garcia
Director of Summer School

Dear Parents,

Garces Memorial High School offers a summer program of academic, enrichment and athletic classes for students entering grades five through twelve in the academic year 2017/2018.  This is our twenty-third year of operation and it is our goal to make summer vacation both enriching and enjoyable for our students.

The programs for students entering fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades next year are focused on core curriculum in Math, Science and English as well as enrichment courses like ukulele lessons, band, drama, Robotics, Fencing Lessons and Rollercoaster STEM. Each 2 week long session make it possible for students to explore new interests and make friends while experiencing a high school campus.

High school students interested in taking a class for credit or preparing for the challenging year ahead will find our high school curriculum to be a perfect fit.  Garces Memorial is pleased to begin offering an online curriculum for Catholic Education through Sevenstar Academy.  Students can take challenging, accredited, college preparatory courses at home at their own pace. Students take online courses for many reasons including: credit recovery, enrichment, remediation and AP course offerings.

For a complete list of all online courses and the entire brochure, please go to our website:  www.garces.org

Financial aid is available for all non-online courses for Garces students currently receiving financial aid.

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have questions or would like to request financial aid.

We hope to see you this summer!
