Academy News
March 2017
As most of you know, we welcomed our inaugural class of 5th graders to the Academy this school year. They have acclimated well to the Academy's environment, which emphasizes brotherhood and high academic and personal achievement. To say they have brought extra energy to the building is an understatement! Thank you to everyone who made this addition of a 5th grade to the Academy's program possible.

Thank you for helping us serve more young men and their families than ever before.

The Academy: a School AND a Weather Station
How cool is this: the Academy now has a weather station on top of its roof! With a generous grant from  Constellation, an Exelon Company  and in partnership with  Weatherbug , meteorologists can now use data collected from the Academy's rooftop to help them report and predict the weather. That data will also be directly implemented into Academy science class curriculum this spring.

The weather station pictured below feeds information to a monitor that lives in our 2nd floor hallway. Students can see temperature forecasts, weather patterns, and live video footage of the Inner Harbor!

Celebrating Black History Month
Students spent much of February studying significant themes and people through four broad periods of Black History. Each grade group was tasked with creating a poster, video, and presentation. The projects were well-done and thoughtful, prompting meaningful group discussion and personal meditations--and the recognition that Black History is not meant to be studied and celebrated once a year, but should be recognized in each young man's personal, academic, and spiritual journeys.

8th Grade Travels to Annapolis
Each year, Academy 8th graders have the unique opportunity to visit Annapolis for the day to watch Maryland government in action. Thanks to kind friends of the Academy, including  Delegate Keith E. Haynes , our boys were able to observe both a House and Senate committee meeting.

Delegate Haynes then led our students through a mock committee meeting of their own, where they presented prepared speeches either for or against particular bills--including the length of the school year and requiring seat belts on buses. Hands-on experiences are so important and we are grateful to Delegate Haynes and others for making this trip possible!

We wish you a blessed Lenten season!

"Even now, says the Lord,
return to Me with your whole heart,
with fasting, and weeping, and mourning;
Rend your hearts, not your garments,
and return to the Lord, your God.
For gracious and merciful is He,
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
and relenting in punishment."

Joel 2:12-13
