As we exit the winter months, it is time to Spring Forward into the
Rides of March
Bikin' Shorts - The Rides of March
At this time of year my thoughts turn to the spring rides. You never know if it will be cool, cold or warm. Wet or dry. Windy or calm. Either way, most of the rides that I can find are outside the metro area. All Out Trinity, on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas, has a lot to offer on the 4th. For those of you looking for a nice road trip, we've found some good ones on the 11th, 18th and 25th. If you need some more ideas, click on the Texas Cycling Calendar link below.

PLUS, we have our 2 fall tours offering fully supported daily rides, including lodging, meals and transportation.

Finally, I've got a suggestion to share about riding "naked" without technology. Check it out!
All Out Trinity - March 4

This event is an all day menu of activities. The list includes a run, a Gravelthon Bike Ride, a Group Yoga Class on the Bridge, Just Ride Dallas (bicycle drag races on the bridge) and much more. Visit their website to learn more and to register for one or more of the activities.

Gravelthon - March 4

If you have not experienced a bike ride in the Trinity River Basin, this is your chance. The Gravelthon, part of the All Out Trinity Festival, offers 20, 40 and 60 mile route options. While some sections are paved, the majority of the routes are gravel. So bring out the cruisers, hybrids, mountain bikes and cross bikes to get out and ride. You'll enjoy some great views along the way. Get all the details at the link below.
Bike Drag Races - March 4

How fast are you on a bike? You have 1000 feet and one other rider to beat across the line. As long as you keep winning each "heat", you might make it to the top of the podium. Do you feel lucky? Check it out.

Pedal thru the Pines - March 11

Looking for a road trip? Smithville is just east of Austin in the Piney Woods near Bastrop. Plenty of nice places to stay and lots of good food options. They offer 24, 40 or 70 mile options with breakfast and lunch options also on site (for an additional fee).
Nacogdoches, TX - March 18

This is another road trip in the making. Piney woods and plenty of hills on these routes of 24, 35 or 63 miles. My friend George Patterson tells me that this is one of Texas Best Bike Rides. Make plans today and start doing some hill training.

Salado, TX - March 25

Take a drive down I-35 and visit Salado. I've enjoyed cycling in that area since the 80's. They got some great scenery, including views of Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Routes of 15, 27, 57, 70, 85 and 102 miles will make sure you are hungry for the food at the end of the ride.

Bullard, TX - March 25

Beauty & The Beast has been around since the 80's, featuring a local hill known fondly as "The Beast". Bullard is just outside of Tyler, so they offer a late start at 9am to give you more time to get there. They also offer routes of 13, 26, 38, 46, 57 and 64 miles, so you should be able to find a route that fits your current fitness level! They'll even feed you after the ride.

Big Bend Adventure
September 23 - 30

Enjoy 4 days of cycling on low traffic roads with breathtaking scenery. Hike on well groomed trails in some of Texas highest mountains - enjoying scenes that you will remember for a lifetime. Visit our website for the details, packages and prices. We have 5 spots open for our 2017 tour.

Ride Naked

While I am not suggesting that you try cycling sans apparel, I am suggesting that you try something analog. Try to go on at least one bike ride where you do not look at the following items: speed, cadence, heart rate, power, electronic maps. Just ride your bike. Take in the scenery around you. Relax. Go for a bike ride simply to enjoy the time outside. Pick a route that is fun to ride. Maybe a trail where you can go slow. Stop for a cold drink or a milkshake. Just go out and ride for the sheer enjoyment. If you feel like going fast, go fast. If you feel like going slow, go slow. You might discover that there is a lot of joy in simply riding naked - without technology. Sure, take your phone with you. Just put it where you cannot see it. Don't log in on Strava. Don't get "credit" for the ride. Don't post it on Facebook. Just go out and RIDE YOUR BIKE.
Natchez Trace Adventure
October 10 - 15

We offered this tour for the first time in 2016. All of our participants said the best thing about the trip was the road. It was just a perfect surface, with low traffic levels and pleasant scenery all the way from Tupelo, MS to Natchez, MS. Visit our website for details, packages and prices. We've got 1 spot open for our 2017 tour.

Ride For Life

I got started in this cycling stuff in 1974 when I was 19 years old. I've logged some 180,000 miles since then and have made it to the age of 62. I can honestly say that cycling has helped support my eating habit while keeping me strong and healthy. I have enjoyed helping thousands of other people discover the joy of cycling, how to build their fitness, how to successfully ride 100 miles or participate in a multi-day tour. How can I help you? If you have a cycling goal or dream, drop me an email and let's figure out how to help you achieve that goal and take that ride.

Ride on!
