The Family Jewels 5K Is Almost Here!
Saturday, March 11
9:00 - 11:00 AM
Saint Edward State Park, 14445 Juanita Drive NE, Kenmore

The Jaimeson Jones Memorial Scholarship presents the 7th annual Family Jewels 5K on March 11, 2017!  Held at Saint Edward State Park, the 5K run (or 2.5K walk) enables them to provide scholarships to Northshore students who have had a sibling with cancer.  We were inspired to do this by Jaimeson Jones, a Bothell XC runner, who died of a recurrence of testicular cancer at age 20 and left his college savings to his two younger sisters.

Childhood cancer devastates a family not only emotionally but financially.  Medical bills are the leading cause of U.S. bankruptcies.   And families coping with this tragedy often find themselves unable to save money for their children to go to college. Because Jaimeson was embarrassed about his testicular pain and swelling and wasn't educated about the gravity of his situation, he went undiagnosed for over a year.  The agony of knowing that he very well may have been cured if his cancer had been caught early drives them to educate young men every chance they get about the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer.  So, they spend a bit of time at the 5K providing funny, family-friendly information about the symptoms and about the critical importance of doing monthly self-checks.  They call it their "30-second lecture." Finally, because Jaimeson loved his blackberry pie, and because of his March 14 (pi) birthday, they are the #only5Kwithapietable.  And, every registrant receives his or her own personal pie!

They hope to see a nice Chamber presence there this year.  Register today at www.familyjewels5k.org.

Funds Are Needed For Iconic "Back To Bothell Sign"

Message from: Richard Olson (OlsonDesign Jewelers) & Team

"Thanks for signing the petition and/or indicating an interest in bringing back Bothell's iconic sign. We've worked with the City to identify a location and a strategy to get there. The sign will have the look of the City's recent signage around town.  It will be very visible from SR-522 and SR-527...positioned at the Landing at the tee where the two roads meet in downtown Bothell.

Fundraising: We are now at the point where we need to raise funds to make it happen.  We've teamed up with the Northshore Rotary to set up a bank account at Banner Bank to which tax deductible donations can be made.   Please make your donation checks out to "NRF" with "Bothell Sign" in the memo line and drop off at Banner Bank on Main Street.

How much?  Our goal is to raise $10,000: about $6,000 for the sign (10 feet wide), plus installation and maintenance.  Once the funds have been raised, they will be transferred to the City's trust fund for such things.  We plan to track the progress on a banner that will be placed somewhere prominent in town.  Besides supporting the effort monetarily, we'd REALLY appreciate it if you could spread the word on social media.

Thanks so much to Jim Jamison, Foggy Noggin Brewing, who kicked off the fundraising at Bothell's Beer Fest in October.  He created a beer and T-shirts dedicated to bringing back the sign, with partial proceeds going to the cause. Let's make a sign!"
