DIGITAL LEARNING DAY IS TOMORROW!!!
|
Add YOUR event or share how your
district
uses digital learning EVERY day!
|
This February 23rd will mark the sixth annual Digital Learning Day celebration across the United States and Michigan will be no exception. This grassroots effort continues to celebrate the power of innovative practices happening in classrooms each and every day through the effective use of modern day tools. The Alliance for Excellent Education defines digital learning as, "any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student's learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career."
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and our collaborative partners are committed this year to spreading the word and supporting educators to make Every Day Digital Learning Day by bringing together Michigan specific digital learning resources that highlight the connection of digital learning to our Michigan Top 10 in 10 years strategic plan.

E-Rate IMPORTANT Update
Applicants now have
only two business days
to work with the Client Service Bureau (CSB) on entity updates during the administrative window, which closes at
11:59 p.m. EST on February 26, 2017.
USAC has established a new deadline for applicants. The administrative window created this year allows applicants to review and update their entity profiles in the E-Rate Productivity Center (EPC). This window closes on 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 26, 2017.
Applicants now have only two business days
to work with the Client Service Bureau (CSB) on entity updates during the administrative window. At this time we do not know if the CSB will be staffed over the weekend, so we
highly advise that all changes are made prior to close of business on Friday, February 24, 2017.
This is particularly necessary for those applicants who have account administrators who may not have logged in since last year and for those entities that have lost E-Rate staff. These cases will require additional assistance from CSB so we highly advise that all changes and updates are made AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
All applicant profiles will be locked as of midnight on Sunday, February 26, 2017 and remain so for the window closing at 11:59 p.m. EST on May 11, 2017. See last week's newsletter for more information. (Archived newsletters posted

The 1Million Project to Close the Digital Divide
From the Michigan Department of Education Office, full memo located
here
The 21st century learning environment extends beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. Michigan schools have purchased over half a million devices in the past four years through the Technology Readiness Infrastructure Grant (TRIG) Device Purchasing Activity. With the prevalence of devices, many teachers have shifted to use of digital instructional materials that require connectivity beyond the school day. Seventy percent of educators assign homework that requires internet connectivity. Equitable access to the internet is crucial to maximize student learning; it is no longer a luxury.
Sprint has launched the 1Million Project aimed at closing the digital divide through the provision of high-speed home internet in addition to a free device. This is a program for high schools that are able to identify, enroll, and support a minimum of 300 to a maximum of 5,000 high school students per year who do not have highspeed internet access at home, for four years. High schools must have the capacity to administer and maintain the program. Additionally, Sprint requires schools to provide program feedback. Sprint encourages schools to convene community stakeholders to gauge interest and support. Ideal applicants would have robust community support in order to maximize program value. The application process for the program, which begins with the 2017-2018 school year, is now open. Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2017 and must be submitted by a high school or district. To learn more about the opportunity, visit
