Museum Grounds & Gardens
Mary Ann Fink, long time pollinator preservationist and landscape steward, has joined the Museum's eco-sustainable task force team as Curator of the Pollinator Pantry.

Mary Ann will oversee this MOT LIFE exhibit, its care and maintenance, and manage the plant collection.   Beginning March 15th, Mary Ann will be in the garden on Wednesdays from 9:30am - 11:00am answering questions on pollinators and gardening in general for Museum guests. Upcoming family days in the garden are March 19, April 23, and May 21.

While on staff at the Missouri Botanical Garden, Mary Ann managed several areas in the Home Gardening Center, taught adult programs, led monthly garden walks and was the founding ambassador/coordinator for Missouri Botanical Garden's 'Plants of Merit' Program.

Group tours can be arranged in the garden by calling 314.289.3508, ext. #1.

Pollinators are nature's greatest form of transportation!
Artifact of the Month - The VELOCIPEDE
A velocipede is a human-powered handcar that is operated by pushing and pulling the long handles.  Velocipedes were popular with the railroads in the late 19th century and early 20th century when used to inspect and repair tracks and telegraph lines, deliver packages, and relay urgent messages between stations.   Velocipedes were replaced by gas-powered speeders.

The Museum of Transportation velocipede is currently on display in The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center as part of the Transportation Trails & Tails Exhibit.

Museum Ownership
On January 1, 2017, the Museum of Transportation became a privately owned facility.   Museum ownership transferred from St. Louis County back to the Transport Museum Association - the original owners.

St. Louis County Parks & Recreation has limited resources.  With a transfer of Museum ownership back to the Transport Museum Association, the County is able to concentrate efforts on parks, recreation, and open space.
This transfer of ownership consists only of the land that was originally transferred to St. Louis County by the Transport Museum Association.  The parkland that surrounds the Museum will continue to be owned and operated by St. Louis County.  This green space will remain a St. Louis County Park.

Museum members and guests will notice no change in operation.

We are grateful to our members who continue to support our organization financially allowing us to provide millions of dollars in capital improvements to the Museum over the past years.  We thank St. Louis County Parks & Recreation for its commitment to the Museum.

The Transport Museum Association has been actively involved in the management of the Museum for decades owning and operating The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center while overseeing Creation Station, facilitated field trips, educational outreach, scout programming, and the miniature train and handcar operations.

We welcome the opportunity to assume ownership.  We look forward to working daily to ensure a brighter future for our historic past.
