Helping you to realize your garden visions for over a decade.
Dear Friends,

Spring is an exciting time at Oriental Garden Supply! We are getting ready for our display at Gardenscape 2012 and preparing to receive some of the goodies we have ordered for the upcoming planting season. Almost everything is still in the poly houses, not quite ready to come out of hibernation, but soon, soon the leaves will be unfurling and awakening the urge to get planting.

Our own Christopher Law has been busy planning and designing our display for GardenScape 2012 on March 15-18, 2012 at the Monroe County Fair & Expo Center (Dome Arena and Minnet Hall). Oriental Garden Supply is working again this year with Twin Oaks Lawn and Landscape and Chris promises to showcase lots of plants that you can use in your own gardens. To get you excited, you can preview some of them in a fun video with music we put together here. The pictures were taken as the plants were being forced in our greenhouses for the show. Stop by our display garden in the Dome Arena or our sale booth in Minnet Hall and say hello! Pick up a coupon for 10% off all non-sale items there or print out the newsletter coupon below to use the next time you come to the nursery.

We made several buying trips this winter, one of which was to the West Coast to check out what the growers are offering. The climate out there is very conducive to growing great plants. The backstory: the upper Northwest has two climatic regions separated by the Cascade Mountains. The Cascades serve to block the warm, moist winds coming from the Pacific Ocean and cause relatively heavy precipitation and moderate temperatures in the western part. The eastern part has relatively little precipitation and more extreme temperatures. It's the western part that is home to some great nurseries.

We are also readying a new website launch. You'll be able to order online and find out all kinds of information about the plants we have in stock with pictures too! Coming soon!

So come to the nursery and see all the new goodies we're getting. The nursery opens April 14 for retail sales. Remember to wear your boots (we make a lot of mud here) and bring something to set your purchases on in your car. Delivery service is available if needed. We look forward to seeing you here at OGS!

Cheers,

Al Pfeiffer, Owner

Almost time for planting!

Be careful about getting out there in your gardens too early. Stomping around on ground that has not quite thawed out or is still soggy will compress the air pockets that plants need to draw from to grow. Earliest spring chores include cutting back ornamental grasses, perennials with evergreen or persistent foliage (like Acorus 'Ogon', hellebores, epimediums, or European gingers), and the early bloomers like euphorbias, and cleaning up plants that grow from a dense crown like Sedum spectabile 'Autumnn Joy.' Call us or stop by the nursery if you have any questions.

New Plants and Stuff at OGS
We've got some interesting new plants arriving soon at Oriental Garden Supply that we would like to tell you about.
  • Sedums and Succulents -We have a large number of varieties for your terrariums, container gardens, and xeriscape gardens and, new this year, will be offering them for sale at GardenScape in Minett Hall. Stop by and pick up a few of these cuties!

  • Picea abies 'Gold Drift' ('Gold Drift' Spruce) -This is a plant that we are really excited about. Butter yellow foliage in the spring calming to a more lime-green color in the summer, this is a sport of the Norway Spruce with a lovely weeping habit that can be grown as a groundcover or staked into an upright form. It is a standout in the winter landscape!
