DIMMED LIGHTS, LOOSENED RULES: GROWING NUMBER OF BUSINESSES CATER TO AUTISTIC VISITORS

T oy stores are dimming the lights and turning off the music. A ferris wheel is letting children and their parents stay on as long as they want. And cinemas are letting patrons wander around the theater if they don't want to stay in their seat.
Those patrons are individuals with autism.

THE EFFECT OF THERAPEUTIC RIDING ON STRESS LEVELS IN YOUNG ADULTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

The purpose of the study is to better understand the effectiveness of therapeutic horseback riding and other stress management techniques for young adults, ages 13-25, on the autism spectrum. The study involves three phases of 10 weeks each, with rest periods in-between. There is a monetary incentive of $150.00 for the entire study period of approximately 1 and a half years.

HUMAN SEXUALITY SURVEY

Robert Morris University is conducting a research study determining the percentage of adolescents with autism spectrum disorders who receive some type of human sexuality education, whether that be in school or an additional resource. A brief Survey Monkey for parents to complete has been created. Completion of this survey will assist in acknowledging the lack of education for this population, thus advocating for creation of more programs and inclusion in curriculum.
