“Building Culturally Competent Health Care Organizations”

The Center continues to address the lack of nursing diversity in Colorado through innovative initiatives supported through Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).  The Center is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Diversity Summit.  This year’s theme will help nurses reflect on their personal and professional cultural competency and explore different tools that can help their organizations become more culturally competent and inclusive.  This Summit will address various dynamics of cultural competency such as:

  • Understanding equity versus equality
  • Exploring benefits of culturally competent health care organizations
  • Developing personal and professional cultural competency
  • Becoming aware of implicit bias and its impact on nursing care
  • Overcoming barriers to nursing education for diverse populations
  • Exploring holistic review and admissions to nursing school
  • Recognizing organizational challenges and opportunities

We are honored to welcome our guest speakers Maria Velasco and Gurudev Khalsa to this year's Diversity Summit. Maria is the Program Manager of the Intercultural Training and Consulting Program for the Spring Institue for Intercultural Learning. She has 15 years experience designing and facilitating training on building cultural awareness and promoting inclusivity in the workplace.  Gurudev is the Principal Consultant to the Spring Institue for Intercultural Learning and a former member of its senior management team. As President of Trilight Development, he has provided strategic training and consulting services across cultural lines for 25 years, including substantial work in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

CE’s will be offered for this Summit. Register today and join the Center in making diversity a priority in nursing. The deadline for registration is March 30, 2017.  However, please register as soon as possible as spots are limited
