Dear Parents,

Lent, the holy season of spiritual renewal, begins on March 1st and fills us with peace and love as we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God. The students will learn the traditional prayers of Lent, attend Mass on Ash Wednesday (8:30 a.m.), and Stations of the Cross with Benediction on Fridays at 1:15 p.m. We will be celebrating the Days of Easter Triduum and receiving the Sacrament of Penance.

The school theme for Lent will blend two ideas: Empathy and the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy. This will be a spiritual and artistic way to re-imagine our school motto, “Hearts to Love and Hands to Serve”.

Using the Interdependence Hexagon Project 2017, students will visually interpret ways that they have acted with empathy. Empathy is trying to understand what another person is feeling by seeing the world through another’s eyes. It helps people to get along better and to feel better. Having empathy is a key ingredient to becoming the best person that one can be. Living and learning the Corporal Works of Mercy combined with empathy will create a world where one acknowledges the interdependence of people and nations in the world. All of this brings us back to our faith and the strengthening of our relationship with God to be a better person this Lenten season.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Egan
