 First AEA Connect Conference of 2017 set for Amsterdam, April 10-11
The Hilton Amsterdam in The Netherlands will be the site of the first of six AEA Connect Conference hosted by the Aircraft Electronics Association in 2017. The 31st annual AEA Europe Connect Conference will take place April 10-11, and advance registration is now available. During the two-day event, the AEA and the European Aviation Safety Agency will discuss key regulatory changes affecting European maintenance organizations.
The AEA's annual regulatory session will take place on Monday, April 10. After a significant amount of EASA activity with the AEA's involvement in late 2016, this session will provide and update on the release of the performance-based CS-23 (parallels and harmonizes with the FAA Part 23). There will also be a discussion and update on Standard Changes, requirements of the 8.33 mandate and an update on EASA's review and update to parts 66 and 147. This session will also include an updated review of the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreements affecting European members. More...
 Helicopter Accident Rate Declines for Third Straight Year in U.S.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the helicopter accident rate in the United States, along with the fatal helicopter accident rate, declined for the third consecutive year. In 2016, there were 106 helicopter accidents, including 17 fatal accidents, which is a 12 percent decline compared to 2015 and a 27 percent decrease compared to 2013.
"The FAA and the helicopter industry have worked together to educate the civil helicopter community about safe practices, to drive these improved results," said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. "The FAA and the industry also are taking an active role in advancing safety through new technology, collaborative policy changes and proactive outreach." More...

For more than 50 years, the FAA and the General Aviation Awards program has honored industry professionals for their contributions to general aviation. The following individuals will be honored in July at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin:

Industry Coalition to FAA:
Rectify Issue Created by Commercial Parts Definition
In Early February, the Aircraft Electronics Association participated with an industry coalition to request rectification by the Federal Aviation Administration of an issue created by the definition of commercial parts. Under the U.S. regulatory framework, commercial parts do not require a production approval and, therefore, are not usually accompanied by an FAA Form 8130-3. This unique application creates challenges with the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreements, especially with Europe. T

When Brian Lorenz started 702 Helicopters 10 years ago, he never imagined it would grow beyond a small operation intended to help pay for his Robinson R22 and the flight training he needed to fly it. Today, Lorenz, who owns the
Las Vegas Airport
-based business with his wife, Bianca, operates a fleet of seven Robinson helicopters and two Cessna 172 aircraft for flight training and air tours over the Las Vegas Strip and
Red Rock Canyon.
The couple recently received a
Part 135 certificate, which will allow them to expand into charter operations, but
they are most excited about adding the
Part 145 repair station.
Until now, most maintenance performed was for the company's own fleet. The repair station allows

AERO DYNAMIX received Transport Canada Civil Aviation validation approval for the Sikorsky S-76D Night Vision Lighting Modification.

WESTERN AIRCRAFT completed its third Dassault Falcon 7X 1C inspection complete with a provisional Gogo Biz 4G system installed. The company is teaming with Gogo Business Aviation for completion of an STC for installation of Gogo Biz 4G on all versions of the Falcon 2000 model aircraft.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. announced that the Gulfstream G650 and G650ER received type certificate validation from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The company's Gulfstream G280 aircraft recently set another speed record in Africa, flying from Windhoek, Namibia, in the southern part of the continent to Dakar, Senegal, on the west coast. The flight took 7 hours and 38 minutes.
HELITRAK announced PMA certification to accompany the AML STC of the Collective Pull Down line of products. On Oct. 13, 2016, HeliTrak received the AML STC SR02506SE from the FAA.
AVMAX recently purchased one Bombardier Challenger 850 msn 8051 from V&M Aviation Ltd., BVI. This CL850 was subsequently leased to Air X Charter Ltd., Malta. Avmax recently dry leased one CRJ-200PF msn 7207 to MCS AeroCarga, Mexico, the fourth CRJ-200PF leased by Avmax to MCS AeroCarga.
