NPR News Team Covers Conflicts of Interest

The election of Donald J. Trump as president has ushered in somewhat uncharted waters in terms of ethics and conflicts of interest. In the past, wealthy presidents have taken steps to divest themselves or move their assets into a blind trust. But Trump has so far resisted such calls to distance himself from his business dealings.

NPR has created a new initiative to cover possible conflicts of interest in the Trump administration, tapping veteran business editor Marilyn Geewax to lead. The Conflicts Team has three full-time staffers and will utilize other NPR reporters as needed. Poynter interviewed Marilyn about the new project, at the link below.

Jazz Night Fact Check: La La Land's Jazz

With the movie La La Land up for several Academy Awards , Jazz Night in America explores its central contrast: how the glossy ideal and the grainy particulars play out among jazz musicians in Los Angeles. There are many opinions about what the film gets wrong and what it gets right. Jazz Night's Christian McBride put together a fact check video featuring Josh Nelson, an L.A. pianist and composer, who was almost Ryan Gosling's hand double in the movie.

And speaking of the red carpet, public media organizations all across the country vie every year for the coveted Rusty Hubcap awards from Car Talk Vehicle Donation Services. Here's this year's Rusty winner for Oldest Vehicle Donated, a 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe, given to WCBE in Columbus, Ohio. Don't have anything that old? That's okay, we'll take it anyway! KGOU received a total of $29,500 in car donations this last fiscal year -- thank you, car donors!

Ticket Giveaway ~ National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine -- the most recorded orchestra of any former Soviet territory -- brings its brilliance, warmth, and expressive versatility to a program of Dvorak and Prokofiev pieces conducted by Theodore Kuchar (pictured). Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond presents this distinguished ensemble on Thursday, Mar. 9 and KGOU will give tickets away in a drawing next week.
