Making the Most of Your Membership: NEA Retirement Seminars Coming Up!

Rodney Ostlund, the NEA Retirement Program specialist for the Kent Education Association and its members, will be here hosting a couple of events for our teachers in February and March.

Here's a quick run-down on what is going to be discussed at these two upcoming events designed to help educate and inform the Kent Education Association member school teachers.

February 7, 2017-  This seminar will focus on the  "early to mid-career"  teacher, and how they can start saving for their retirement OUTSIDE of their Plan 3 Teachers' pension.  One of the wonderful benefits offered by the Kent School District is the ability for its employees to open a ROTH 403b contributory account through salary deduction.  It's important that all KEA members understand and know about this benefit and how it could impact their retirement.  Of course, with all of my presentations, we will clearly explain how the teachers' pension works, when members are eligible to retire, and what they can do to maximize their retirement benefits both with the State Teachers Retirement System (WSTRS) and Social Security.   Click here to register

March 7, 2017-  This seminar will focus more towards  "the later career"   teacher, and the decisions they will encounter as their retirement date approaches.  We will discuss the new EMPOWER Third Party Administrator, the benefits associated with these recent changes, and pitfalls they can avoid to have the most beneficial retirement possible.  There are many decisions to be made during this process, and working in the "the school teacher arena" for the last 17 years, I will make this process more clear for your members, while offering a trusted resource for those getting closer to retirement.  As your NEA Retirement Program specialist, I also offer a service to help the retiring teacher "avoid the minefields" of confusion during their last year or two of teaching. Click here to register

Rodney does offer a complimentary 1-hour consultation with each member, and has his office conveniently located right here in Kent just north of the Cave Man Kitchen on the West Valley Highway.

Please register through the KEA using the links above. If you have any questions prior to the event, please feel free to email Rodney
