EVITA

GETTING TO KNOW YOU:
FIVE QUESTIONS WITH AYME OLIVO

This week, we've had a opportunity to sit down with Ayme Olivo, who's starring as Eva Peron our upcoming production of EVITA.

MTW:  So happy to have you back at Musical Theatre West, can you tell our patrons one of your favorite memories of working here?

Ayme as Diana Morales in MTW's A CHORUS LINE

I was in A CHORUS LINE and a lot of my favorite memories involved Kristen Lamoureux. She was always making me laugh. One memory in particular was helping her with fake eyelashes. She couldn't put them on so I always helped her. It was just before places and we were rushing to put them on. For some reason the glue wasn't coming out of the tube. I squeezed really hard and the glue shot out all over her costume and hair. We had to rush to places while trying to clean all the glue off her. Needless to say she didn't wear lashes that show. Also, one of the things I love about working at MTW is they always have snacks set out for us during rehearsals. It's a little detail that everyone really appreciates.

MTW: How are rehearsals for EVITA going so far?

Rehearsals are going great!   I think we are at a really good place. I couldn't be surrounded by a more professional and prepared cast and creative team. Larry's vision is really exciting and fresh. He has such a great eye for the details and making sure the focus is exactly where it needs to be.

MTW: Eva's a pretty spectacular role for an actress, but do you have a dream role?

Since I was 7 I have always wanted to be Christine in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. It's one of the first shows my grandma ever introduced to my brother and I. We became obsessed and would listen to it ALL the time. This is actually my first Andrew Lloyd Webber show so that's really exciting for me.

MTW: Do you have a favorite moment in EVITA, yet, or one you're looking forward to?

I'm really looking forward to diving into such a great role. I have a particular lens that I see her life through and am excited to be able to tell her story from that perspective. Buenos Aires is also a really fun and exciting number. It's one of the few numbers that I get to really dance in so I enjoy that. Hector has done a great job capturing the true Argentine vibe and challenging the dancers with great choreography. I'm also looking forward to wearing that beautiful white gown for "Don't Cry For Me Argentina."

MTW: What's your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Swimming! I'm actually on a masters competitive swim team. I love being in the water and it's my favorite way to workout because it doesn't feel like I am.

MTW: Bonus Question: Seen any good theatre lately?

Actually the last great show I saw was MEMPHIS here at MTW!

ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER & TIM RICE'S

EVITA

COMES TO
MUSICAL THEATRE WEST at the
CARPENTER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

FEBRUARY 10 - 26, 2017.

STARRING:
AYME OLIVO as EVA PERON
(MTW:   A Chorus Line; Nat'l Tour: Mamma Mia!; Regional: In the Heights)
RICHARD BERMUDEZ as CHE
(MTW: Ragtime, The King & I; Regional: Titanic, Evita)
and
DAVIS GAINES as JUAN PERON
(MTW: Man of La Mancha; B'way/SF/LA: The Phantom of the Opera)

Featuring "Don't Cry For Me Argentina," Evita is the story of Eva Peron and her rise from dirt-poor to her position as Argentina's controversial First Lady.  With Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's compelling score, Evita creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.
