HEALTHY KIDS CORNER
Try out this yummy snack your child is sure to love!

This is a 'sneaky' way to get whole grains and veggies (vitamins) into your and your children's daily diet. These are cute and fun to put into lunch bags and my kids love them. I think you will too.
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed sweet potato (about 2 medium)
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (or any other cheese you like)
  • 1/4 cup softened butter (NOT melted)
  • 1 1/2 cups Whole Wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric (optional)
  • 1/4 cup half-and-half or whole milk
Directions:
  1. Boil a whole sweet potato for 40-50 minutes until easily pierced with a fork. Drain water and remove skin with a fork or tongs. Keeping the skin on while cooking retains vitamins. Mash with a potato masher or in a blender till smooth.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine the cheese, butter, sweet potato puree, flour, and salt in a stand mixer.
  3. Mix on a medium speed until the mixture forms a sandy consistency. Add the half-and-half and knead into a ball. Do not over knead.  On a lightly floured surface roll the dough into a rectangle that is 1/8-inch thick. Cut out crackers into desired shape.
  4. Gently transfer the strips to a parchment paper lined cookie sheet with a 1/4-inch between them.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the ends are barely browned. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack to cool.
  6. Store in a covered container in a cool place. Dough will freeze well so make extra.
SITE HIGHLIGHTS
Brentwood: Here in Brentwood we are excited to learn about Groundhog's Day, celebrate Valentine's Day and more! February may be a short month but we will make the most of it!

Danville: For the month of February I look forward to doing some crafts with tissue paper such as making snowy day art, tissue paper bottle art, and tissue paper flowers. The kids and I are wishing that spring would hurry up so we are going to plan an indoor picnic.

East Kingston: Happy February! This month we will be doing some crafts around Valentine's Day and focusing on how easy it is to care for someone with a simple gesture. We will also be doing some literacy projects that will make us think of different winter words and practice writing our alphabet or find objects that start with a certain letter of the alphabet for our younger friends.

Exeter: Tis the season of LOVE!! Bring on February as we learn to create our own sun catchers, create fun and exciting crafts and of course celebrate Valentine's Day!

Fremont:
For the month of February we are looking forward to a couple things. One is the new pom-pom jug. Every time someone does something that falls under any of the four core values, they receive a pom-pom that they drop into the jug. Every week they have to make a certain amount of pom-poms in the jug, and if they make that number, everyone will be rewarded with something. We are also looking forward to new enrichment activities that will get everyone excited about the next holiday coming up, Valentine's Day!

Hampstead: Here in Hampstead we are excited to announce that this month we will be learning how to make our own sun catchers! Sun catchers will be sent home with children. Please feel free to hang them in a window at home! Children will also get the chance to create their own Polar Bears and Penguins! Children will be sent home with the animals they've made. Have a good winter break!

Hampton: Here is Hampton we are really looking forward to focusing on the four core values and really trying to notice when they are being used around us every day! Our four core values at the YMCA are Respect, Honesty, and Caring & Responsibility; how do you use these in your everyday life?

Hampton Falls: We are looking forward to a shark buoyancy science project, making pinecone bird feeders, enjoying Valentine's Day arts and craft projects.

Kensington: There is a lot we are looking forward to in February. Without giving too much away, we will be exploring shadows in honor of Groundhog's Day, and making a special treat for Valentine's Day. February may be a short month, but it will be a fun month of creating and celebrating friendships.

Kingston: In Kingston we are planning on celebrating all of the fun holidays in February. We are also going to explore different types of music and try a few new foods.

Newton: We are looking forward to a shark buoyancy science project, making pinecone bird feeders, enjoying Valentine's Day arts and craft projects, and a Valentine Delivery zip line and much more!

North Hampton: We are all looking forward to February the second month of the year it will hold lots of fun and HEARTS! This is the month of love, love, love and we will be showing each other, our family and earth how we love and care about one another!

Raymond: In Raymond we lost Kayla our Site Director, please understand as we are trying to fill this positon with the best person possible. You will see staff such as Joel, Stephanie, Veronica, Tina and Chantel at the program during this time.

Seabrook: In Seabrook we will be looking forward to having a new Site Director Corina at the program. Corina hopes to bring new fresh and exciting activities to the
Seabrook program, she has many years' experience working with children including working for the Seabrook Rec. Department and at the Newton YMCA in the Site Director position.

Stratham: Here in Stratham we are excited to host a Valentine's party for the children at SAFE!! Please be on the lookout at the sign out table for more information on this fun event. We also will be creating things such as homemade playdough, trying out some new STEM kits and having fun playing group games together!
