YOUNG LIVES
from Denise Inman

Thank you for continuing to pray for and support Young Lives, our ministry for teen moms and their kids! Our 4th year of 'Club' officially kicked off on September 6.  We are so very blessed to have moms who have already graduated from St. Gerard's returning to continue growing their faith, and are excited for the opportunity to introduce new moms to Christ.

Our group meets in the Fellowship Hall from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. The first Tuesday is dedicated to having some fun playing games and singing, before settling down to hear a leader share God's Word. We also use these nights to bring in special guests to teach the girls about home fire safety, interviewing for a job, etc. The third Tuesday of the month has been set aside for small group Bible study, to talk about what's going on in their lives and what God has to do with it. Throughout the month, Young Lives leaders also spend one-on-one time with moms and their babies. It may be a play date at the park, having them over for dinner, helping a mom study for their driver's license test, encouraging a mom to continue her education after high school, coaching a mom before a job interview, giving a mom a ride to work, being at the hospital when a baby is delivered, the list goes on!

One of the highlights of the year for moms, babies and leaders is going to summer camp for a week. The girls are a bit apprehensive at first. When they arrive at camp, they have to turn their cell phones over to their leader and do not get them back until they are leaving at the end of the week. Doing this takes the noise of the world away and helps open their ears to the Word being spoken throughout the week. Most will tell you they really don't miss their phones after a couple of days. The girls had an AWESOME time at camp in August, and three made the decision to live a life following after Jesus. Hallelujah!

With our growing number of moms, we have a growing number of little ones. We are also starting to experience challenges of having newborns and toddlers in the same room together. A prayer request for this year is to have enough nursery volunteers to allow us to separate the groups. This will also give us the opportunity to share Bible stories and do other activities with the older kids.We couldn't do what we do without the support of others in our church community. Dinner is served at our semi-monthly meetings and while there are many church/civic groups who help provide these meals throughout the year, we could use some help in this area. If you are interested in learning more about Young Lives, would like to help in our nursery from time to time, or provide dinner for one of our meetings, please contact Denise Inman at 904-501-1000.

   Operation Shoebox--Christmas Child
T he story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a clear picture of God's desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them. After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, "Go and do likewise." For over 40 years, Samaritan's Purse has done its utmost to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering. They are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Operation Christmas Child  is just one of the many ways Christians and churches have worked together in the spirit of the Good Samaritan. Our church has a goal to fill at least 100 shoe boxes. These "shoe boxes" are actually plastic containers available in the fellowship hall of our church. Please take one or more containers and be sure to take the instruction booklet with it so that you will know what items to place inside. When you have it full, return your containers to the fellowship hall. Do not seal them as all containers will be checked and items added when our boxes get to the regional assembly place in North Carolina.

A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children's lives all over the world in Jesus' name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.

   The Annual Jim Lee Dinner

Designed for men and established by Mr. Jim Lee, this dinner is set for Saturday night, October 29 at 6 pm. All men are invited to come and bring a friend along. Our speaker will be the head football coach at Pedro Menendez High School, Patrick Turner. He has an outstanding testimony for Christ and is a great example for his young athletes.

The dinner itself if free and the menu is exceptional; Steak, potato, vegetables, salad, rolls, dessert, coffee and tea. Jim Lee is remembered for his love of men and for his desire to see them gathering together for fellowship and service.

CareFest 2016

Twenty  people from our church participated in CareFest. They were joined by eight people from Palmview Baptist C hurch of Palmcoast.  The group met in the church parking lot at  7:00 am on September 24 and  walked to Francis Field where they enjoyed a continental breakfast provided by Chic-fil-a. There were a total of 110 projects to be completed in the community. Our church was responsible for two of them. The first one  was at the Boys and Girls Club. Nick Athanaseas was in charge of outside activities there. These included mulching, planting a tree, building two flower boxes, painting two basketball benches, and pressure washing the basketball court.

Cindy Lewis was in charge of the inside activities. Those working inside wrote thank-you notes,  cleaned and checked  board games  to make sure all pieces were present, then  cleaned and organized  the kitchen. A storage room off the gym had everything taken out, sorted and organized. Everyone worked hard and much was accomplished for the glory of God.

The second project for our church was at a member's home. The week before CareFest several men worked to get everything ready. The home was pressured washed, siding was replaced, and painting was done.  Everyone was so grateful for all that was accomplished and also thankful for those who extended a helping hand. Those involved were equally blessed and are looking forward to next year.

Ancient City Christian Academy News

In September the Academy had pictures taken by Hallie Mitchell of all of the preschoolers.  Ancient City Christian Academy kicked-off Community Helpers Month with a visit from the fire department this week. In October they will have visits from Florida's Smokey the Bear, the local police department with Project Buckle-up, and a Channel 47 weather forecaster. Rev. Larry DuBose will speak to the preschoolers in chapel this month.  On October 14, the  VPK class will be walking to the pumpkin patch at the First United Methodist Church on King Street.  On the morning of October 26 ACCA will have its Fall Festival on the playground.

The Academy has 1 opening for a 2-year old, 1 opening for VPK and several openings for 3-year olds. Share this information with your friends and family and ask them to call for a tour (904-824-4256) or email Peggy@AncientCityBaptist.org.
