David Biello is an award-winning journalist who has been reporting on the environment and energy since 1999. He has been an editor and contributing writer at Scientific American, and he also contributes frequently to the Los Angeles Review of Books, Yale e360, Nautilus, and Aeon. Biello has been a guest on radio shows, such as WNYC's The Takeaway, NHPR's Word of Mouth, and PRI's The World. He hosts the ongoing duPont-Columbia award-winning documentary Beyond the Light Switch for PBS.

Anne Applebaum, Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics Institute of Global Affairs, to discuss
"The U.S., Ukraine and Russia's Western Ambitions"
on
Tuesday, February 21, at 2 PM ET.
Anne Applebaum is a journalist and historian with a particular expertise in the history of communism and the experience of post-communist "democratization" in the Soviet Union and central Europe. At LSE's Institute of Global Affairs, she will run ARENA, a program on disinformation and 21st century propaganda, and build the Transformation Lab, a program focused on the political and economic transformation of individual countries. She writes a biweekly foreign affairs column for the Washington Post and is the author of several books, including
Gulag: A History, which won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction, and
Iron Curtain, which won the 2013 Cundill Prize for Historical Literature and was nominated for a National Book Award. Applebaum is featured in a short 15-minute documentary about the Holodomor, the genocidal famine in Ukraine engineered by the USSR's Joseph Stalin. The call comes days before the first Hollywood-style feature film set during the Holodomor,

November 15-17
For more than two decades, the World Affairs Councils of America's annual conference has presented top government officials, diplomats, business executives, civic leaders, think tank policy experts and journalists to a national audience. Council leaders and members from WACA's affiliates across the country engage with these speakers and thought leaders over the course of three stimulating days in our nation's capital. The
2016 event was great, and we look forward to welcoming you back this November!

Future of Korea Series: Applications Due February 15
|
We are pleased to announce our continued collaboration with the
Korea Economic Institute of America
on the
Future of Korea
program series. The speaker program will focus on the economic and political situation on the Korean Peninsula as well as U.S.-Korea relations.
All Councils may submit applications; six to eight Councils will be selected to participate.
About the Program
The centerpiece of the program is a panel discussion consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Department of State, the Korean Embassy, KEI, or other relevant institutions. The panel participants typically offer a general overview presentation, followed by a Q&A period. For more information about the program click here.
