Delegates Honored for Protecting Maryland's
Business Climate


This week, Maryland Business for Responsive Government (MBRG) honored legislators who received high pro-business ratings for the 2016 Legislative Session. Delegate Krebs was recognized and awarded with a 100% rating!
MBRG is a statewide, nonpartisan political research and education organization. They score legislators based on their votes on bills that have impact on Maryland's business climate.



Governor Larry Hogan Announces Public Charter School Act of 2017, Funding for Classroom Innovation
Administrative and Legislative Action to Close Achievement Gap, Ensure Equitable Education Opportunities

"I believe that every child in Maryland deserves access to a world-class education regardless of what neighborhood they happen to grow up in," said Governor Hogan     

On January 25th, Governor Larry Hogan announced new administration initiatives to continue expanding and improving education opportunities for students in Maryland, which include the Public Charter School Act of 2017 and increased funding to encourage innovation and creativity in the classroom. The governor's fiscal year 2018 operating budget, which was introduced earlier this month, includes a $6.4 billion investment in K-12 education, fully funding the aid formulas and providing record funding for the third straight year.

2017 Heroin And Opioid Prevention, Treatment, And Enforcement Package - January 24, 2017 
Topline:
  • Governor Hogan and Lt. Governor Rutherford have committed to doing everything in their power to tackle the heroin and opioid crisis impacting our state.
  • Since taking office, Governor Hogan and Lt. Governor Rutherford have taken immediate action to address this crisis - the package offered by the governor and lieutenant governor, builds on the steps that have already been taken over the last two years. 
Opioid Operational Command Center:
  •  Governor Hogan announced a planned amendment to the 2015 executive order which created the Inter-Agency Heroin and Opioid Coordinating Council, the planned amendment will authorize the Council to establish the Opioid Operational Command Center.
  • The Center will play an important role in facilitating greater collaboration between state and local health, human services, education, and public safety entities to reduce the harmful impacts of opioid addiction in our community. As a direct result from the increased collaboration, the Center will collect and collate data - this data can be used to save lives. 
Treatment:
  • $1.3 billion for mental health and substance use disorder services is provided in the fiscal year 2018 budget. Additionally, Governor Hogan's proposed fiscal year 2018 budget includes $159 million dedicated to existing non-Medicaid substance use disorder treatment programs. $4 million in new funding will bolster the state's effort to help those struggling with heroin and opioid addiction.
