Compassion
In our scripture reading on Sunday we will continue our look at the epiphanies of Jesus in the gospel of Luke (how Jesus reveals who he is through his words and actions).  One of characteristics of Jesus' ministry we will see is compassion.  For some who hold power, compassion is considered a weakness.  For Jesus, compassion is a core value.  We are having a national debate about how compassion is expressed.  Regardless of what the policy ends up being, as followers of Jesus, compassion is something that should shape our life.  So how do we express compassion? How do we model it and share it with our children?  If you are looking for a resource to use with children check out  teaching compassion.

Updated Annual Report
The first printing of the Annual Report had a few typos and omissions, so we have made a few minor corrections and added the missing reports in a new edition of the Annual Report.  An electronic version was sent out today and we will have the new addition in paper available on Sunday (along with a correction sheet for those who already picked up or printed a report)>

On Feb.5 we will have a Annual Report Forum during the Faith Formation time (9:25-10:05) instead of the Pastor's Bible Class in the Fireside room. At the Forum, we will have time to address any questions or concerns that you may have.  The annual report will have an abbreviated version of the budget...if you want to see the full "line by line" please come to the forum.  We also will be making an constitution change in response to some changes in the ELCA, again if you want see the detail on that, the forum is the place to be.

Volunteers Needed Sunday February 5th 9:45am-12:30pm

Youth and Adult Volunteers are needed to help in the kitchen Sunday February 5th 9:45am - 12:30pm at Joy Church.
Volunteers will be helping prepare, serve, and clean up after the Annual Party meal.
Volunteers must wear closed toe shoes.  Lunch will be provided.

Church Directory

The directories will be available on Sunday to pick up.  Of course as soon has it is printed it is out of date, so if you have corrections please let the office know.   We are working on creating a password protected page on our web page where an updated copy will be posted.

Name Tag s... are a great way to help people remember you name.  We are working on a system to have more permanent name tags available, but for now any time you can wear one helps the rest of us get to know you.  Thank you.

Loves of Love

Feb. 5 and 12th.   Bake your muffins, rolls and bread and bring to the Fireside Room to be sold after worship. Money raised will go toward the immediate needs of our sister church in Malawi.

Joy Lutheran Card Ministry

J oy's Card Ministry will be getting together on Saturday, February 18th at 9:00 A.M. into the early afternoon to make cards to fill Joy's card rack. Crafty fun will be had by all who attend and there will be a potluck lunch. Please come and join the group and stay as long as you are able!!
Help the Quilters!

The Joyful Quilters are busy quilting in the Fellowship Hall every Wednesday from 9 AM - Noon. All are welcome to join this group - no experience necessary! They are making quilts to send to Lutheran World Relief to help our brothers and sisters all around the world--providing warmth, comfort, and the knowledge that someone cares. If you can't quilt on Wednesdays, you can still help by donating material (4 yard pieces) or money so that the quilters can buy the batting and other materials they need to complete their quilts. If you can help in any way, please contact the co-chairs, Karen Lundgaard or Joan Schaack, and they will give you more information.

Change in Nursery Hours

Because we have not had people making use of the nursery during the Faith Formation time between worship services we will save resources and not be offering child care at that time.  If it becomes a need in the future we can reinstate it.  But for now, we will only be offering child care during the 10:15 worship.

Joy's Nursery is professionally staffed with experienced child caregivers who will look after your precious little ones as if they were their own.

Joy proudly introduces Melissa and Kyra Miller, our professional Mother-Daughter Nursery Team!

Winter Coat Drive

We have a barrel in the Narthex for new or gently used and clean coats, mittens, hats, scarves, warm socks, long underwear, etc. The barrel will be picked up on Feb. 10th, so now is the time to make a donation.

Ken Roen's Beautiful Work
Thank You's
  • Thank you to Ken and Linda Wilson for serving the January Birthday Party at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center. They brought cupcakes to share with the residents. Thanks, too, to Charlotte Burgeson for donating fruit that was also shared with the residents at the party. Our church serves twice a year at the monthly birthday party at the Care Center.
  • Thank you to Ken Roen who made all the table decorations found on tables in the Fellowship Hall. Thanks, Ken, for making the tables in the Fellowship Hall look so nice each season of the year!
  • Thank you to everyone who helps clean up after each Wednesday's supper at the church, especially Ron and Chris Stanke and Ed and Mary Glaubitz who are faithfully washing dishes and wiping tables every week with the help of other volunteers. Thanks to Kelly Poff for preparing the delicious dinners we are served each Wednesday. Remember that ALL are welcome to enjoy dinner at the church each Wednesday, 5:15-6:30 P.M.
