NM Teacher receives White-Reinhardt Fund for Education Scholarship from American Farm Bureau Foundation
We are happy to announce that Rio Rancho elementary teacher and previous NM Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year, Mr. John Turrietta, has been awarded a generous scholarship. The scholarship offers up to $1500 to help recipients attend the 2017 National Ag in the Classroom Conference to be held June 20-24 in Kansas City, Missouri! Congratulation to Mr. Turrietta, a wonderful and well deserving master teacher! Thank you to the American Farm Bureau Foundation and the generous donors to the White-Reinhardt Fund for this opportunity.

CHS Foundation Is Helping Teachers Attend!
The CHS Foundation is graciously providing $20,000 in scholarship funds to fund dozens of deserving teachers. This scholarship will cover the cost of the conference registration, totaling $435. Deadline is Friday, March 3, 2017!

2017 New Mexico Organic Farming Conference
A Hidden Gem for Educators!
Looking for a local conference that will help you inspire students in STEM and STEM career areas? The NM Organic Conference is just the place! This conference offers opportunities to learn from experts in the field that understand the diversity and challenges of growing in our region.
Topics you might find handy for a classroom setting include: identifying weeds, weed management, using the right tool for the job with small tool innovations, learning about our state's top ten common pests, greenhouse basics, beneficial bugs, beekeeping, using a microscope to look deeper in the soil, rainwater harvesting, medicinal herbs, seed saving and so much more! The hardest part is choosing which workshop to attend!

Beef Ambassador Contest:
A three member team, consisting of the top two seniors and one junior, will be chosen to travel throughout the state to promote the beef industry through educational presentations, events, and social media. Each of the team members will receive a monogrammed beef ambassador jacket and shirts to wear during promotional activities.
- Contestant age categories are: Senior - Ages 18-20 and Junior - Ages 15-17
- The contest will be held Friday, March 31 in Las Cruces
- The entry deadline is March 1 via email, mail or on-line submission

 Ag Discovery: AgDiscovery is a summer camp outreach program designed to help middle through high school aged students explore careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, agribusiness, plant pathology, aquaculture, and much more. This 2-4 week program allows participants to live on a college campus, and discover agricultural science from university professors, practicing veterinarians, industry representatives, and professionals working for the U.S. government. 2017 Clean Tech Competition: Win up to $10,000! Registration is now open for this global research and design challenge for 15-18 year old students. The competition aims to foster a deeper understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related concepts, recognize outstanding talent, and prepare the next generation of globally competitive innovators.This educational opportunity challenges students to develop innovative, clean technology solutions to real-world issues. Student participants will gain experience with focused research, critical thinking, and the scientific process - making it a great project based learning opportunity.
