Campus Ministry Summit
The Rev. Dr. David Dressel,
Bishop Jamison J. Hardy and
The Rev. Curtis Dwyer
Earlier this week 14 Campus pastors and district staff from both the English District and the Michigan District met for a Campus Ministry Summit at Martin Luther Chapel at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. This Summit gave the participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and explore methods to effectively serve students on college and university campuses. The event began on Monday evening with Bishop Hardy preaching at an opening communion service, followed by an evening of fellowship at a local restaurant. Tuesday was packed with a variety of presentations, including presentations by MSU faculty and staff about how ministries can partner with Universities through Student Affairs offices and associations of religious organizations to help students develop and succeed. Other presentations focused on topics like student leadership, servant events, fundraising, Synod and District resources for ministry, and alumni reflections on their experience of campus ministry. Time was set aside on Tuesday evening for peer-to-peer brainstorming around issues that are currently facing our unique ministries. The whole event was filled with God's Word and prayer.

There is already talk about holding a similar event next year. If you are currently involved in work on campus, or if campus ministry is a possibility in your setting, please watch the Servant to Servant for an announcement about next year's gathering.

For more information, or to discuss resources for Campus Ministry, contact Pastor Dave Dressel, the Chair of the English District Campus Ministry Task Force, at dresseld@msu.edu .
Pastor Curt Dwyer welcomes those who have come to join in the English District Campus Ministry Summit. The schedule was full and all will be "flying low and fast."
Rev. J. Derek Mathers, Assistant to the Bishop, leads the opening devotion at the Conference, sharing a great message on four "alls" in the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20! God with us!
Attendees were given the tools and support needed for Campus Ministries.

Ministerial Health Commission
By Sue Neff

I am honored and consider it a great blessing to serve as a member of the Ministerial Health Commission and as your district representative for Parish Nursing in the English District.

The Parish Nurse ministry complements the pastoral ministry of the church by promoting health and wellness in the congregation through heath education, personal health counseling, training of volunteers for visitation in the church and community liaison.

The Parish Nurse ministry in the LCMS began in 1998 with a few men and women who envisioned the possibilities of this ministry. Actually, the concept of Parish Nursing was begun in the 1960s by the Rev. Dr. Granger Westberg, who saw the benefits of whole person health and began what is known as the modern Parish Nurse movement.

I firmly believe that keeping our members and our church workers in a healthy physical, emotional, and spiritual balance is not only good, but God pleasing!

For more information, please contact either a member of the  Ministerial Health Commission, or myself, Sue Neff, RN, Parish Nurse.

CPH releases new Arch Books
Concordia Publishing House has added three new 16-page books to its long-running children's series of Arch® Books.

Each volume in the 50-year-old series - designed for children ages 5 to 9 - retells a Bible story using rhyme and colorful illustrations.

New to the series are:
  • Joshua and the Fall of Jericho ($2.49, item no. 592290WEB), about the battle of Jericho from Numbers and Joshua. Despite the wall around Jericho, God's people defeat the city without using shovels or axes to get inside. This story teaches children that God will punish the unrighteous, but He will keep His promise to deliver those whom His Son has redeemed.
  • Peter Surprises Rhoda ($2.49, item no. 592289WEB), the Acts 12:1-19 story of Peter miraculously being released from Herod's prison and being led out by God's angel. Afterward, when Peter arrives at the house of Mary and Mark, where friends had gathered to pray, Rhoda hears his voice and is so surprised she forgets to let him in! This book reminds children that God does, indeed, listen to us and answer our prayers.
  •  Jesus Christ Is Risen Today! ($2.49, item no. 592291WEB), for Easter 2017, which is based on the popular hymn with the same title. Using language from all four Gospel accounts, this book retells the story of Jesus' resurrection and shows how it fulfills God's promise in Genesis to save His people.

News from our international workers
Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of our Epiphany Light, Jesus Christ! His grace be upon you.

Please read our newsletter bringing you up to date on what is happening with us. We ask that you pray for us as we pray for you. There are many people who do not know God's love in Jesus and only Christians have that message. So when we pray, "Thy kingdom come," we need to remember that we are a part of God's answer to that petition.

If there is anything we can pray for you, please feel free to write us back. We would be honored to serve you.

God bless and keep you!

Rev. Dale and Suzanne Kaster
Your International Workers in Ghana, West Africa
