Earlier this week 14 Campus pastors and district staff from both the English District and the Michigan District met for a Campus Ministry Summit at Martin Luther Chapel at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. This Summit gave the participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and explore methods to effectively serve students on college and university campuses. The event began on Monday evening with Bishop Hardy preaching at an opening communion service, followed by an evening of fellowship at a local restaurant. Tuesday was packed with a variety of presentations, including presentations by MSU faculty and staff about how ministries can partner with Universities through Student Affairs offices and associations of religious organizations to help students develop and succeed. Other presentations focused on topics like student leadership, servant events, fundraising, Synod and District resources for ministry, and alumni reflections on their experience of campus ministry. Time was set aside on Tuesday evening for peer-to-peer brainstorming around issues that are currently facing our unique ministries. The whole event was filled with God's Word and prayer.
There is already talk about holding a similar event next year. If you are currently involved in work on campus, or if campus ministry is a possibility in your setting, please watch the Servant to Servant for an announcement about next year's gathering.

Ministerial Health Commission

I am honored and consider it a great blessing to serve as a member of the Ministerial Health
Commission and as your district representative for Parish Nursing in the English District.
The Parish Nurse ministry complements the pastoral ministry of the church by promoting health and wellness in the congregation through heath education, personal health counseling, training of volunteers for visitation in the church and community liaison.
The Parish Nurse ministry in the LCMS began in 1998 with a few men and women who envisioned the possibilities of this ministry. Actually, the concept of Parish Nursing was begun in the 1960s by the Rev. Dr. Granger Westberg, who saw the benefits of whole person health and began what is known as the modern Parish Nurse movement.
I firmly believe that keeping our members and our church workers in a healthy physical, emotional, and spiritual balance is not only good, but God pleasing!

|
|
Each volume in the 50-year-old series - designed for children ages 5 to 9 - retells a Bible story using rhyme and colorful illustrations.
New to the series are:
