What is Alabaster? The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world. While we understand the church consists of the people of God and not a building, buildings erected for the purpose of ministry help provide a sense of permanence, functionally enhance ministry efforts, and convey an attitude that the Church of the Nazarene intends to "put down roots." Alabaster funds help provide land for many Work & Witness projects, and the entire Alabaster Offering goes toward the purchase of land and construction of churches, schools, medical facilities, and homes for missionaries and national workers.
NMI with the collaboration of NYI and SDMI has been trying to compile a list of children and youth who have expressed a call into ministry. The goal of NMI's Ministry Call is to educate, inform and guide those children and youth called into ministry get as much help in following through with those calls. Being able to pray for them by name and introducing them to opportunities to develop in their particular area of ministry.
If you know of a student who feels called into ministry please let Ronda Hollars know by giving her a call at 815-875-1900
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
As you are going,
THINK BIG:
Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.
And make disciples,
START SMALL:
You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.
T
he Bible teaches us not only the message of our faith, but also the method by which that faith is to be passed on to future generations. We are called to do God's work in God's way. The manner in which the Lord works is incarnational: life rubs up against life. We pass on Christlikeness through intimate modeling. Paul said, "I urge you to imitate me" (1 Corinthians 4:16) and "you became imitators of us and of the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 1:6). Discipleship Essentials by Greg Ogden

Missions in America
Missions in America Weekend a Huge Success!!
Friday night and Saturday, February 3 & 4, a group of 50 people gathered at First Church of the Nazarene in Rockford for Missions in America training. A little over two years ago four individuals, Nathan and Sara Rodehaver, John Evans and Laura Mata-Bolandi began a coaching journey with Darrell MacLearn, Organic Church Planter Coach with New Church Specialties. During this time they have each planted one or more churches. Their journey entered a new phase on February 3 when they became the coaches for the next wave of church planters. Over the coming two years they will be coaching three, four or more church planters each. Many from this next group come directly from the churches planted during the past two years! This demonstrates the fact that many of the future workers that will be sent into the harvest field are currently a part of that harvest!
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Luke 10:2 NIV
Missions in America training is the first session in the two year coaching journey. What God has in store for the next two years across Northwestern Illinois is nothing short of amazing! Let's continue to pray together for God's blessing on his people and the harvest field. Set a reminder for 10:02 daily and pray Luke 10:2!
Board of Ministry
On Thursday, January 19, the NWIL District Board of Ministry met at Peoria First to examine and encourage our district licensed ministers in preparation for District Assembly. Five candidates for ordination and their spouses were interviewed along with 21 applicants for renewal of their district license and 3 first time applicants. This day is usually a long, but very rewarding day, as the board gets to hear how God is at work in the lives, ministries and churches across our district through these ministers. God's presence is evident in our discussions, deliberations and determinations. You, as a district family, need to know that your NWIL Board of Ministry is exploring ways each year to make our system of examination and accountability more relational and effective. Our present is bright with the team of pastors currently serving on the board and even brighter with the next generation of pastors following in their footsteps.
Ladies Day 2017 is a wonderful opportunity for the women to worship together. As always, it will be a day of music, laughter, encouragement and fellowship! Tickets for your group can be purchased atiTickets.com.
Freedom Sunday
Over the past three years, more than 400 Nazarene congregations around the world have participated in Freedom Sunday, a day set aside for prayer, worship, and support around the crisis of human trafficking, which enslaves as many as 45.8 million people globally, according to the 2016
This year, Nazarene churches are encouraged to participate in Freedom
Sunday on
September 24, 2017, the last
Sunday of that month.
The Church of the Nazarene's participation in Freedom Sunday began in 2014 in coordination with other denominations within the Wesleyan Holiness Connection (formerly Wesleyan Holiness Consortium). That same year, the Church of the Nazarene's Board of General Superintendents endorsed the Declaration for Freedom, a document drafted by the Wesleyan-Holiness leaders, including Nazarene representatives.
In the past, Freedom Sunday took place on the first Sunday of Lent. This year, the event was moved to the last Sunday of September to enable churches that plan traditional Lenten services to participate.
Congregations are encouraged to plan a Freedom Sunday at any time that works in their calendar. Freedom Sunday planning resources are available as free downloads through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at ncm.org/freedomsunday.
The Church of the Nazarene believes in empowering laypeople to serve. This is evident around the world, including the tens of thousands of Nazarenes mobilized through the One Heart - Many Hands service projects over the last 24 years.
OHMH is calling all past, present, and future volunteers to join in a Work & Witness project in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, June 18 to 23, 2017, the week prior to the denomination's General Assembly and Conventions.
This project will kick off a new, five-year initiative to repair, rehab, and rebuild more than 400 homes and build 20 new homes in the 46201 zip code.
Communities in this zip code are dotted with dilapidated or abandoned homes. Single parents, many of whom live below the poverty line, dominate the population. Help is sorely needed, but not easily available.
"What we do now will not only have a positive impact today, but will plant seeds of change that will continue growing for generations," said George Sisler, OHMH president.
In 1993, OHMH founder Dr. Gary Morsch organized the first weeklong service project to accompany a Church of the Nazarene General Assembly. That project, also in Indianapolis, included about 25 locations. At the 20th anniversary project, there were more than 120 project locations and 1,800 volunteers.
The next project in 2017 is slated to be one of the largest yet with 2,000 volunteers. This project is perfect for individuals or groups of any size, and volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Early registration ends January 31 and is $195.Click hereto request an information packet and be a part of this tradition.
