Bend Chamber Appoints Three New Members to its Board of Directors
The Bend Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. The board elected Travis Ulrich, the co-founder of Bend's "Seriously Great" Webfoot Painting Company; Rebecca Berry, Vice President of Human Resources at St. Charles Health System; and Hunter Neubauer, co-owner of Oregrown Industries Inc., Oregon's premier farm-to-table cannabis company.
Citizen Group Recommends Changes to Bend City Charter
With support from Bend Chamber of Commerce, Bend 2030, and City Club of Central Oregon, a group of Bend citizens have explored the city's current governance model. Based on input from two citizen meetings last year, the Bend City Governance committee presented their findings in front of the city council last night. According to the report, the citizen's input group favors a publicly elected mayor as well as the creation of ward system to give all citizens in Bend a fair representation in city council.
Key Dates for 2017 Legislature
The 2017 Legislative Session officially convened Wednesday, February 1. Legislators spent most of the first day handling routine business and holding a few hearings on relatively minor bills. But difficult tasks such as closing a $1.8 billion budget hole and crafting a transportation package will soon work their way onto committee agendas.
Advisory Committee Openings
The City of Bend is seeking applications for the SE Bend Septic to Sewer Advisory Committee. Committee members will review and make recommendations to the Bend City Council regarding funding and policy options for a comprehensive plan and strategy to convert properties from septic to sewer in the SE Bend Kings Forest area.

Now Accepting Applications for the 2017 Leadership Bend Impact Summit
Leadership Bend, a nine-month program of the Bend Chamber, is once again elevating the vital role of nonprofit organizations in Central Oregon through the 2017 Leadership Bend Impact Summit (LBIS). Application can now be submitted by eligible non-profit organizations for the opportunity to be awarded a $10,000 cash prize. The deadline for submissions is February 17, 2017, no later than 5 p.m.

Central Oregon has a housing problem. From skyrocketing prices to extremely low rental vacancy rates, residents can't afford, much less find places to live. So why isn't more low-income or affordable housing being built? With a population of 208,000 people in Central Oregon and only 1750 units of affordable housing available (that's less than .008%), the need is apparent.
