POLITICS AND CIVILITY! Readers not involved in politics or the GOP can move on to the next section. On FB Tony Sharkey asks:  Does anyone else believe they have become a better person after getting involved in politics? Followup questions ask has your involvement has made your community/State/Country a better place?  Michael Vickory  posts: "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you." quoting Pericles. On another track Stacey Lemon cites Proverbs 3:5-8 (see Off FB section below) as a reminder of proper reflection and conduct.
Your editor responded: I have always considered myself the "un-politician". Trying to be a statesman. We kick tires, check consumer reports, google ratings on things before we buy them, but give half our income to governments and don't watch it? We must be stewards of God's gifts, which require we influence how caesar uses what they take. Not involved out or love or glory, but out of fear for the next generatiion. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil - is that good men do nothing."
The actions in several county GOP conventions and breakouts last month were short of Civility and Proverbs 3. In one county someone removed the gavel from the podium before the meeting, forcing the Chair to use a bottle to call order. The biggest controversy seems to be the Oakland portion of the 11th CD where a conservative faction gained control, then used poor tactics that split the convention. They over-reacted to rump rules being improperly imposed by the Oakland GOP Chair. Temporary or interim or proposed rules do not govern a convention no matter who draws them up, until they are adopted by THAT convention. The propriety of a county controlling parts of several district committees with parts in other counties deserves review. Perhaps they should meet by districts when it comes to selecting delegates to DISTRICT and State conventions.
The report by the MRP Credentials Committee re: the 11th CD was punitive and shortsighted (Link), concluding that if a conservative faction were to prevail over an establishment faction it would do "irreparable harm" to the Republican Party. Really? Like when Reagan won 49 states? In perhaps her last official act as MRP Chair after elevation to RNC Chair, along with her State Co-Chair (both residents of that district), the smackdown is  short sighted, unimaginative and divisive. Pure raw power politics abusing the process, IOHO. Clearly the majority of the Oakland 11th delegates were disenfranchised in one of the few official functions they are elected to perform. Their Republican voters were cuckold. It is a terrible sign effecting the ability to work cohesively in the future. Rules fomented under their leadership has created problems that bar expression by many activists.
As stated by 13th GOP Chair:  I think we would be doing an injustice if not one of us mentioned the victims in all of this....128 PD's who thought they were going to convention, that are now having cancel plans and room reservations, and whom are now rethinking being involved with us .Activists leaders, as well as elected leaders, always need to keep their crew in mind when making choices, and implementing tactics.
There must be room for success in politics for someone who is not a snollygoster.
A new team gets elected this weekend. Will they open the door to more activists? Even conservatives? Will there be civility and opportunity for those who actually try to enforce the Republican Party's stated principles?
The answer to that will determine if Republicans govern in Michigan in 2019.

Former Wolverine Tom Brady spotted Atlanta Falcons 3TDs,   21 points, down 28-4 after three quarters, leads the New England Patriots to victory in overtime. 5 of 7 Rose Bowl Wins; 4 MVPs. Did he say at the press conference with the Commish that he was fresh in the 4th Quarter and Overtime because he was rested from not playing the first four games?

++ Fellow Americans we have just begun. I hear some say there is no hope, while others say the mission is complete. We are a free country because those who came before us had the opportunity and vision to try a noble experiment in self governance, and those who followed continued to fight for that right.
We have survived a brutal and bitter attempt to gut our principles and condemn us to international subservience under an olegarch that has failed to provide, freedom, liberty and opportunity to billions of people.
We can, and must, and will succeed, if we do not give up the fight. See you at MiCPAC 4/29/2017, Holt, Mi. Be Inspired by this Video!

++ Notice the MSM is starting to use U-6 instead of U-3 "unemployment data"? This  Instantly changes the unemployment rate from 4.9% to 9.4%. They have underestimated it for eight years under Obama. BTW, the real number lowered 0.2% since Trump was elected, and business has more confidence in the new Administration.

Sen. Jeff Sessions  CONFIRMED for Attorney General!
Sen. Elizabeth Warren's racial stunt that sparked her removal from the senate floor Tuesday night proved even shorter than her time living in a teepee.  Warren attempted to use the words of Coretta Scott King, the widow of slain civil rights hero Martin Luther King Jr., to smear Sen. Jeff Sessions' bid for Attorney General. Warren's now warrant-less claim was that King's wife's words framed Sessions as a bigot.  But now a more recent video has surfaced where Coretta King in fact praises Sessions at the launching of the Rosa Parks Library and Museum.  What a difference 12 hours can make.   Video Link  (Thanks, Darwin)

++ Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., accused Sen. Elizabeth Warren of performing a "bait and switch" and playing the "race card" in invoking the King family name during her speech  Tuesday night in opposition to Sen. Jeff Sessions' appointment as attorney general.  King criticized the tactic of "using the name of Martin Luther King Jr. and now Mrs. Coretta Scott King to get people's emotions stirred so they cannot clearly get the message" of peacemaking. She called it "the old bait and switch, with the race card being played. ... People will never look at the issues. People will never see the solutions. They'll be angry and then we can slip our agenda in.

Trump picks Neil Gorsuch (49)
for Supreme Court vacancy
President Trump announced Tuesday night that Neil Gorsuch, a conservative federal judge on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, is his pick to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. "I took the task of this nomination very seriously. I have selected an individual whose qualities define, really and I mean closely define, what we're looking for," Trump continued. "Judge Gorsuch has outstanding legal skills, a brilliant mind, tremendous discipline and has earned bipartisan support." Video and More

++ C hildren are worthy of government protection from the instruments of abortion. If the evidence supporting his understanding of the proper role of the judiciary is correct, then real hope exists that he will end the American jurisprudential tragedy that ends so many lives of unborn sons and daughters. Neil Gorsuch has the opportunity to restore good governance under the Rule of Law to a Supreme Court willing to destroy it in order to advance personal political preferences for abortion and same-sex marriage. It is my prayer that he will do so.  William Wagner, former Federal judge and Prosecutor.
If We Can't Unite Against Rioting,
We Can't Unite at All
In the United States of America, rioting to stop free speech is unlawful and reprehensible. Period. Full stop. It's not "understandable." It's not excusable. There should be no tolerance and no sympathy for people who pepper-spray young women, beat bystanders senseless, and tear up property because they're mad that another human being is speaking.
Law enforcement should prioritize identifying, locating, and arresting members of the black bloc, and it should treat them as the political terrorists they are. More

++ President Donald Trump reacted again to the aftermath of the Berkeley riots
in response to a scheduled speech by Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos.
"Professional anarchists, thugs and paid protesters are proving the point of the millions of people who voted to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday.
Rioters caused an estimated $100,000 in property damage in Berkeley on Wednesday, and only one person was arrested. Bank windows and ATMs were smashed, a Starbucks was looted, anti-Trump graffiti was painted on store fronts, Molotov cocktails were thrown, and garbage fires were lit in the streets.
On Thursday, Trump responded to the rioting by threatening to cancel federal funding for colleges that failed to protect the right of free speech. Link

++ Democrats Declare Total War on Trump - Harry Reid's "nuclear option" can be used by Republicans to confirm a Supreme Court nominee.  With their angry left-wing base whipped into a frenzy of opposition on virtually every imaginable front, some Senate Democrats are promising to wage a filibuster against President Trump's Supreme Court nominee... Democrats are preemptively vowing to obstruct anyone he chooses -- retaliation, they say, for Republicans' refusal to consider the nomination of Merrick Garland under the Biden Rule. Battle lines, drawn.
Democrats, by fiat, altered the way the Senate interprets Rule XXII, which governs the procedure for cutting off debate and ending a filibuster. The rule continues to prescribe that when a cloture vote occurs, the question must be put, "Is it the sense of the Senate that the debate shall be brought to a close?"
It goes on to state that cloture is invoked if "the question [is] decided in the affirmative by three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn."  Reid raised a point of order, claiming that the words "three-fifths" mean "a simple majority." The presiding officer, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), on the advice of the Senate parliamentarian, rejected the point of order. However, the majority, by a 52-48 vote (three Democrats voted "no"), was able to overturn the ruling of the chair, creating the new precedent that "three-fifths" or 60 senators means a simple "majority."    Trump's executive order, signed Jan. 27, indefinitely blocks entry to the United States for Syrian refugees and temporarily suspends entry to other refugees and citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries. Since the order, the State Department said it had canceled up to 60,000 visas of people from those nations.
Earlier on Friday a federal judge in Massachusetts, U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton sided with the Trump administration and ruled that the president had the authority on national-security grounds to bar citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, according to  The Boston Globe .   Obama barred huge groups of potentially dangerous immigrants from entering the United States at least six times, undercutting his claim that barring Muslims from terrorist countries as Donald Trump has proposed is un-American.
In his first ban, according to a search of White House records, Obama instituted a ban on "immigrants or nonimmigrants" covered by a larger United Nations travel ban. He also included those on an economic sanctions list. Most countries were Muslim.
He used the same provision five other times, one more in 2011, twice in 2012 and twice in 2014. In those, he targeted people aiding Iran, Syria, Crimea, and those involved in war crimes.  Article

Donald Cramer at the annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton, President Donald Trump revealed that through all of the ups and downs and personal struggles of his campaign, there were five words that gave him solace and comfort.
"All around America, I have met amazing people whose words of worship and encouragement have been a constant source of strength," the 45th president added. "What I hear most often as I travel the country are five words that never  fail to touch my heart. That's 'I am praying for you.' I hear it so often, 'I am praying for your, Mr. President.'"

  National Debt Clock  HERE
The debt is now about 130% of the total GDP - 30% more than the total annual economic activity of the entire country. As a comparison, it hit a peak of 30% GDP under President Reagan. There must be a massive shrinkage of governments to reset a growing economy.
Many think the REAL debt including, unfunded liabilities and the "black" budget never seen by the public, is about $127T. The total net worth of the USA including "intellectual power" has been estimated at about $ 88T. We are bankrupt. Politicians need to find a way of extracting this debt from future generations, without destroying the capitalism that makes wealth possible.

His suicide prevention pogram for vets has saved live. Tom has been at and supported MiCPAC and MCU and his iCaucus is a strategic partner. Tom put $3K of his own money into recall efforts agains legislators who supported the tax increases. He is SOLID!!! The difference in potential to help the conservative movement is huge.

Michigan Republican Party To Select New Leadership

As Vice President Mike Pence says it: We are for God, Family and Country in that order. Party is a means, not an end. Elections are a necessary evil that is the way we implement civics in a constitutional republic. Those who feel politics is only about elections, concede policies to those who understand what elections and parties are really all about.

Thoughts and opinions: The MRP Credentials report on the Oakland 11th CD.
Wow. Unbelievable. It is seriously flawed, regardless of the true facts on the 11th CD meeting. Poorly written, punative and very divisive. The GOP is in trouble in 2018.

++ What, exactly, is "unity"?  More taxes, more regulations, more marginalizing patriots who would have for Michigan what we hope to have for a new USA? A wise victor does not ignore detractors who have a different vision - one closer to the victor's alleged principles and platform. What we are more likely to see is significant atrophy, which will allow the Relentless PROGRESSIVE Action to race on with less resistance. Might as well welcome the Dems into the GOP caucus instead of keeping up the ruse. We do not think that is good for Michigan but Mayflower and Atlas Moving will love it.

WHO IS RUNNING and Up Right Michigan PAC thoughts:

Chair: Ron Weiser  [email protected]
Co-Chair:  Amanda Van Essen Wirth  [email protected]

Administrative Vice-Chair: Tami Carlone  [email protected]  , Gerry Hildenbrand  [email protected]   David Wolkinson  [email protected]
Wolkinson is the incumbent. In his two previous terms we have not seen much activity or difference. Hildebrand used to be a conservative, we think, but has been linked at the hip with the establishment for the last several years. Some believe he will be their candidate. Carlone is a CPA and conservative education activist active with Lakes Tea Party and the BattleCry folks. She was a Kasich delegate in Cleveland but did vote for Trump.  We admire Tami's commitment to family and cause. She is a dynamo. Her volunteer activities at Christmas season are noteworthy and she has raised a nice family. Finesse working with people - even allies - could be improved.  She has been in the fight and is likely the most conservative in the race.

Grassroots Vice-Chair: Mark Gurley  [email protected]  Denise Pallarito  [email protected]
Mark Gurley is an insurance executive very active with the Life and Evangelical communities. We is articulate, energetic and active. We believe Mark Gurley will be much more effective and will help keep conservatives engaged with the GOP.
Denice Pallarito is a staffer for Rep. Triston Cole and previously for Congressman Benishek. She was selected by the Republican State Committee after Wendy Day was removed from the position. This is a volunteer position that requires

Ethnic Vice-Chair: Tyrell Bundy [email protected]  Mike Farage  [email protected]  Terris Todd  [email protected]
Tyrell Bundy has been on the Republican State Committee and was a National Delegate who also went to the Inaugural of President Trump. He is on the 13th District Committee where he has successfully reached out into ethnic communities. "He helped with Right to Work.  He helped fight Medicaid expansion.  He helped fight the gas tax increase.  He supports Common Core repeal and constitutional carry.  It's hard to beat a long history of fighting for conservative causes." Tony DeMott.  We feel Tyrell Bundy is the preferred candidate for this position.
Farage is known as a dirty trick political operative that often backs Democrats. He has angered some Republican legislators with campaign materials they think are unprincipled. We believe he was complicit in a fake email last August stealing and misusing our logos, format and links.
Terris Todd served five terms as a Democrat County Commissioner. Losing the Democrat primary for State Rep in 2014 he then ran as a write-in, helping elect the Republican. He has worked for that legislator (Dr, Bizon, 43% MCU rating) as has his wife. Supporting the entire Democrat ticket for more than 10 years, up until two years ago, is of concern for top state GOP office. His relationship with radical SCLC organizer Julian Bond needs study. Some of our members support him, some don't We think he has lots of potential but should improve his Republican credentials fbefore serving as a statewide GOP official.

Coalitions Vice-Chair: Kevin Tatulyan  [email protected]

Youth Vice-Chair: Michael Banerian  [email protected]

Outreach Vice-Chair: Thomas Norton [email protected],  Benjamin Soltis  [email protected]  Kenneth Lloyd  [email protected]
Tom Norton has been a very effective strategic partner with MCU as a member and participant at MiCPAC events, a successful businessman employing about 19, head of Michigan iCaucus, a Village President who actually cut taxes, and a veteran who has made a huge difference in suicide prevention and rebuilding Legion and VFW posts while recruiting veterans for the conservative cause. Experience counts. Marketing skills is a huge plus. Being able to work with establishment and conservatives is an intangible of significance, and his endorsements are building rapidly in both quarters. Tom's business takes him to much of the state and into minority communities. He has the resources to be very effective. Tom Norton is the perfect match for Outreach Vice Chair!
Soltis graduated from college in 2016. He was involved with the student senate at GVSU. It did not humor people in politics when he introduced himself as a senator, implying a legislator. His experience is limited and shallow, and we found no difficulty in finding detractors.
Lloyd is a bright young conservative who is physically limited by cerebral palsy. He is working on a masters degree and that might also limit availability. Frankly, we really like Kenneth. But with Norton available to outreach with veterans, Life, Evangelical, millennial and minority communities, it isn't even close. ++ State Rep. Michael Webber writes: Recently, members of the House and Senate along with the Michigan Department of Treasury met for one of the two Consensus Revenue Estimating Conferences. It is predicted that  state revenues will climb modestly for the two upcoming budget years. Net general fund revenue for Fiscal Year 2018, which begins Oct. 1, 2017, is now pegged at $10.5 billion, up from the current fiscal year's projected $10.29 billion. It's projected to climb slightly to $10.59 billion in FY 2019.Net School Aid Fund Revenue for FY 2018 is pegged at $12.78 billion, up from the current fiscal year's projected $12.48 billion. It's projected to hit $13.1 billion in FY 2019.

Revenues continue to increase without tax increases. Don't even hint at tax increases!

++ For the seventh year in a row, state officials did not make at least the minimum payment that the state's own accountants say is needed to start filling a massive $26.7 billion hole in the school pension fund.   "the state sets its own rules for how to pay for the pension system and officials change them at their discretion." James Hohman, assistant director of finance for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Article

It is past time to change from defined benefits to defined costs. Public pensions are out of control!

Project Kirk is designed for us to better understand the true precepts of what he called "The Permanent Things." Russell was the writer that Reagan, Goldwater, Wm. F. Buckley, Jr. and so many others read and referred to as the founder of modern conservatism. Share his wisdom with others
"the essential principles of government [include] . . . freedom of religion; freedom the press; freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus; and trial by juries impartially selected - these principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us, and guided our steps through an age of revolution of reformation. The wisdom of our sages and the blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political   faith - the text of civil instruction - the touchstone by which to try the series of those we trust . . . ." Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1801.
Jefferson's enumeration of unalienable rights and limited government as being the political creed and touchstones of our republic still speaks to us today. In this age of mass political polarization, we should be united on some basic foundations - a "creed" as Jefferson termed it. Those founding First Principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence and embedded in the Constitution. IF we remain united on those, we have a chance for our republic to survive for generations. If not, then not.
