CHC Announces Senator Barbara Boxer as Keynote Speaker of the 2017 Policy Forum & CA Housing Hall of Fame Awards

CHC welcomes longtime California champion, Barbara Boxer, as our keynote speaker on May 11th, 2017. A forceful advocate for families, children, consumers, the environment and her State of California, Senator Boxer became a United States Senator in January 1993 after 10 years of service in the House of Representatives and six years on the Marin County Board of Supervisors. In January 2017, she stepped down after four terms in the Senate.

"As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we are thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker, former California Senator, Barbara Boxer. As a champion of those less fortunate, our 4-term Senator provided strong leadership for California and the nation. She could always be counted on to stand up for affordable housing and use her strong voice to make sure our small voice was never lost in Washington DC.  As she gets started on the next phase of her life and career, we couldn't be more pleased to have her join us." said Ray Pearl, CHC Executive Director.

A national leader on environmental protection, Senator Boxer was the ranking member on the U.S. Senate's Committee on Environmental and Public Works (EPW). Senator Boxer was also the ranking member of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. She was a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she chaired the first subcommittee ever to focus on global women's issues. Senator Boxer was also a member of the Democratic leadership in the Senate, serving as Chief Deputy Whip from 2005-2016.

In 2012, as Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, she led efforts to pass a bipartisan transportation bill that will save or create nearly 3 million jobs nationwide. In 2010, she spearheaded the effort in the Senate to extend the Highway Trust Fund to help protect 1 million jobs in transportation nationwide. Senator Boxer has worked to revitalize the economy by supporting targeted tax cuts, a permanent Research and Development tax credit, accelerated depreciation of new business equipment, and tax credits for broadband investments focused on rural and underserved areas.
