SNSI Expands Vet Network
With many Hoosiers living near state lines, SNSI has expanded its vet network to clinics in bordering states. While we still only serve groups and people from Indiana, these new vet partnerships make it easier for some Hoosiers to get them fixed. If you know of a vet in neighboring states that might be open to becoming one of SNSI's partners, please let us know.
Feb. "Have a Heart" is Here
Our February "Have a Heart" campaign is here, where people in need can utilize participating vets to get their pets fixed at a discounted rate. It's a time when we encourage those who have friends, family members, neighbors or co-workers who haven't gotten their pets fixed to do so at a lower-than-usual rate. Check our website for certificates and a list of participating vets.
Join Us for a Special Award Ceremony
SNSI and the ASPCA invite you to attend an awards celebration honoring Indiana Representatives Mike Karickhoff and Linda Lawson for their work to ensure the passage of legislation last year to reduce pet homelessness and save animal lives. The legislation ensures that dogs and cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption from shelters and rescue groups. Spaying and neutering is a proven strategy for reducing both shelter intake and euthanasia.

The awards ceremony takes place at the Indiana Statehouse, 200 West Washington Street, North Atrium, 2nd Floor, in Indianapolis on Monday, February 13, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Animal lovers and supporters are encouraged to join the celebration, networking and light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.    Learn more and RSVP .
SNSI's Assistance Allows Partners To Do More
SNSI's financial assistance programs are targeted on spaying and neutering to save animal lives. Not only do our programs save lives, they allow rescue groups and shelters to go the extra mile for animals in need, because SNSI's financial assistance reduces their burden. An area that is especially expensive is the care and treatment of special needs animals, whether from neglect, abuse, injury or deformity. Here are just a few examples of how our partner organizations are able to provide care to special needs dogs and cats:
  • Poppy
An owner-surrender because she wasn't always making the litter box, Poppy, came to the Morgan County Humane Society (MCHS). They determined that Poppy had no hip sockets, which was likely caused by odd positioning in the womb, resulting in rear leg deformity. MCHS reached out to a foster family who has helped with other special needs cats, and the foster took Poppy in. They fashioned a litter box out of a shallower plastic container and demonstrated that special needs animals can become great pets if only given some time and patience.
  • Holden before surgery.
Every Dog Counts Rescue in Zionsville saved Holden, a darling, 5-week-old puppy, that came to EDCR just before Thanksgiving with a badly mangled and infected leg. He was very sick, and his veterinary team said the only hope of saving him was to amputate the leg to get rid of the infected

tissue. At just two pounds, it was the smallest amputation his surgeon had ever done. Amazingly, Holden came thru surgery like a (tiny) champ, recovered beautifully, and now he's a happy, healthy tripod puppy. He is getting neutered courtesy of SNSI!
  • Born without a pelvis or back legs, Anakin was feral when artist Carrie Hawks, caught him on her dad's farm. Even with
    Anakin
his disability, Anakin is an active, loving and amazing cat that can zoom around by supporting his weight on his front two legs. Carrie also provided SNSI with the 2016 Hair Ball artwork, further demonstrating her commitment to all animals. See Carrie's artwork of Anakin and more here.
Vet Partnership Exemplified in AMC
We couldn't do what we do without our 125 shared-mission vets. It's our vets that ensure that we can offer low-cost spay-neuter services to Hoosiers across the state. Animal Medical Center (AMC) in Indianapolis is one example of a vet partner who has, for many years, provided services for SNSI's clients. Recently, AMC has begun making donations in the name of beloved animals from its clinic, as just one more way to demonstrate its support of SNSI and our mission. Thank you to AMC and all of SNSI's vet partners for the incredible support of animal welfare and spaying/neutering!
