e's goal is to collect and donate 100 items per month. CAN you pick up an extra CANNED good, nonperishable food item, or personal care product next time you are out shopping? Please do, and put it in the basket in the church foyer to be donated to the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP). Suggested donations:
macaroni and cheese, pasta and sauce, dry beans and rice, boxes of cereal, bars of soap, canned meat, and peanut butter!

Movement Class Now on Friday!
Our
Awareness Through Movement® classes focus on gentle movement that can assist us in being more comfortable and pain-free in our everyday activities.
Come learn how to use the core of your body to improve movement, balance, and chronic pain.
Everyone is welcome! Class is drop-in, no experience necessary,
and is led by Sally Locklear. Wear comfortable, loose clothing, and bring a bath or beach towel to use as head support for comfort in side-lying.

Looking for It? Check Lost & Found
Where is that blue jacket? The car keys with my fob? My pink tam and scarf? My lettuce keeper? In the Lost & Found, of course! There are several youth jackets, work gloves, stuffed animals, earrings, rings, lots of eyeglasses, and more. Take a look. After several more weeks, it will all be donated.

"Who We Are: The SUPER Power of Love"
A Youth-Led Multigenerational Service
Join the Transformers Youth in a creative youth-led multigenerational service, exploring the question, How can our identity give us power to create love in the world? Join in a lively service for all ages with drama, music, art, and more. Youth have been preparing and helping create this service for the last three weeks, and the RE children have made special Valentines for the congregation. (A note for families with young children: activities will be engaging and appropriate for all ages, and the service will be shorter than usual so that our younger members can participate comfortably).
As a congregation-wide social justice activity, all are invited to bring to this service an item to share with the church's homeless outreach.
The Social Justice Committee and Children and Youth Religious Education Program will be holding an RE Creative Service Sunday in March where children and youth will assemble meal packs for distribution in the community. Needed items include individual servings of canned fruit, cracker packs, pudding cups, juice boxes, canned meat (pull-tops, e.g. Vienna sausage), travel-sized hygiene products, and gallon-sized Ziplock bags. This will be an ongoing collection through March 12th.

This Sunday in Children and Youth Religious Education
Children and youth will participate in the all-ages service in the sanctuary. RE classes will not be held. Childcare for ages 0-3 will be offered as usual in the Nursery.

Each January, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) asks UU congregations nationwide to report specific data. The following information was reported by UUCH to the UUA in January of 2017:

Average Sunday attendance: 112 (calendar year 2016)

For the church year ended June 30, 2016:

The ramp at the Fellowship Hall will be under construction on the following days:
Thursday, February 9th: Breaking up the sloped part of the old ramp (the Fellowship Hall entrance will only be accessible by walking across the grass next to the ramp).
Friday, February 10th: Pouring a new ADA compliant ramp.
Thanks for your understanding! Handrail and threshold improvements will also be done soon.
This work was recommended by the Accessibility Task Force and requested by the Board based on the Annual Budget Drive's priorities in 2016. Special thanks to Jeanne deFrance for her efforts meeting with contractors to make these arrangements!

Wednesday Night Film Series

Clint Smith is a slam poet whose TED Talk "How to Raise a Black Son in America" has struck an intense chord as gun violence continues to escalate. It has climbed to 1.8 million views. Told with passion and personal insight from the dual perspective of father and son, the story centers around an adolescent squirt gun fight in a hotel parking lot. Facilitator, LaDawn Edwards, has used this TED Talk for several semesters in her UAH writing class to encourage business students to consider other points of view.
Join us on Wednesday night, February 15th at 7 p.m., immediately following the Wonderful Wednesday Night Supper. The short video will be followed by a discussion of these ideas and how they relate to the principles of Unitarian Universalism.

2017 Alabama Arise Legislative Day
The 2017 Alabama Arise Legislative Day is Tuesday, February 28th in Montgomery. We will meet as a group to get briefed on the issues, attend a legislative reception, and visit our legislators.

"New UU" Class Starts February 19th
What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist? Guided by the Tapestry of Faith Curriculum, we will offer a three-part series that explores important themes in UU congregational life--our worship and theology; history, covenant and polity; faith development, social justice, and membership. This program is focused on introducing newcomers to Unitarian Universalism, but those of us who have been here for awhile will also be able to share and connect with others as we explore our own beliefs and how they intersect with the UU tradition. Everyone is welcome!
So mark your calendars now for the Sunday mornings of February 19th, 26th, and March 5th for this chance to learn and share. Meet for coffee and breakfast snacks at 9:00 a.m.; discussion starts at 9:15. Pam Korb and Nick Wilbourn will facilitate the discussion. Great Opportunity to Help a Child!
Volunteer to Share Your Interests with Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) Children.
This is just a one time commitment (or more, if you wish!)
AHA needs YOU to help out with their tutoring program. Each
Saturday morning from 2/25 to 4/15 in the Fellowship Hall, AHA needs someone to share a hobby, craft, etc. with the kids during "special activity" time. Ten children, ranging from elementary to high school, are participating. The special activity is scheduled for 11:00 to 11:30 am.
You do not need to speak Spanish, and several other tutors, some from AHA, will be present in the Fellowship Hall with you. You do not need to be a teacher to do this, just to have patience and enthusiasm.
