Intelligence Squared: Is Policing Racially Biased?

In 2014, the shooting of Michael Brown by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo., set off a wave of protests and sparked a movement targeting racial disparities in criminal justice. Opposing panels of debaters argue the motion 'Policing is racially biased' on Intelligence Squared U.S. this Sunday, Feb. 12, this week's Sunday Radio Matinee. Tune in at noon to hear what's sure to be a lively exchange full of facts and statistics about this issue.

Awards Season Begins for KGOU
The awards for great radio and great journalism might not get a televised ceremony, but they still highlight excellent work being done on the state level. The first organization to announce its awards for work done in the 2016 calendar year is the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters. KGOU was the winner in the OAB's Feature reporting category for Metro radio stations, with a report by KGOU News Director Jacob McCleland.

New Season Begins for Race Matters on KGOU

During the month of February Race Matters returns to KGOU Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. World Literature Today's Merleyn Bell hosts discussions pertaining to race and race relations.

This month's episodes touch on the interaction of race and feminism (with Dr. Mariana Ortega), reflections on current and past social justice movements, the origins and impact of a designated Black History Month and more. Hear the episodes from the link below.

Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Francis Lam
After 21 years, Lynne Rossetto Kasper is stepping down as host of The Splendid Table (Wednesdays at 11 a.m.) but will continue to contribute to the program until she retires at year's end.

Food writer and journalist Francis Lam has been tapped as the new host. As a regular contributor since 2010, Francis is already part of The Splendid Table family. He begins hosting in March. The show will have opportunities to honor Lynne throughout 2017.

Ticket Giveaway ~ The Five Irish Tenors at Armstrong Auditorium
Morgan Crowley, George Hutton, Ciarán Kelly, Alan Leech and David Martin take audiences on a journey through the most beautiful songs in Irish folk tradition, then on to American artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra and the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and Billy Joel. They come to Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and we'll give away tickets in a drawing next week.
