SE Uplift invites Portlanders like you to shape and create your neighborhood by applying for a Neighborhood Small Grant.

The City of Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement is partnering with Portland's seven neighborhood district coalitions to give out the funds. The seven neighborhood coalitions and their grant funds available are: 

Central NE Neighbors (CNN) -- $9,390 East Portland Neighborhood Office (EPNO) -- $23,883 Neighbors West/Northwest (NWNW) -- $11,218 North Portland Neighborhood Services (NPNS) -- $11,500 Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) -- $11,218 Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition (SE Uplift)   -- $23,708 Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc. (SWNI) -- $10,996

If you happen to have a friend in one of the other neighborhoods, let them know so they can have a chance at making a difference in the neighborhood they live in!

The goals of the Neighborhood Small Grant Program are to increase the number and diversity of people who are involved and engaged in the broader community; strengthen community capacity to create change by building community leadership, identity, skills, relationships and partnerships; and increase community impact on public decisions and community life.

R2DToo and the City planned to move the rest area to a city-owned property at SE 3rd and Harrison by October 31,2016.

However these plans were blocked by a recent decision by the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) in late August, with LUBA finding that the camp was a prohibited use in an industrial zone.

Portland Development Commission (PDC) now says that R2Dtoo can stay at their current site in Chinatown until, at latest,  April 7, 2017.

The City is once again looking for other sites where R2DToo could relocate for the long-term that are allowed by right to avoid running into further zoning code issues.

It is unlikely they will be able to identify, purchase, and prepare a new site by the April 2017 deadline. So the City is also actively seeking temporary sites that could host the rest area.

Meanwhile, the City is covering the costs of weatherization and winterization improvements for the current site at SW 4th & Burnside to help shelter the camp site users through the winter.

The report recommendations are at a concept level and reflect hundreds of conversations with stakeholders and community members. The recommended concepts will:

Reduce the maximum allowed size of houses based on lot size and zone.

* Apply a Housing Opportunity Overlay Zone in areas with good access to services, jobs, transportation options and other amenities. Within the new overlay zone, allow more housing types (duplexes, triplexes on corners, additional ADUs) and rezone historically narrow lots to R2.5. * Increase flexibility for cottage clusters (groups of small homes typically oriented around a shared common space). * Provide incentives for retaining existing houses. * Revise parking rules for houses on narrow lots.

WHAT: City Council Public Hearing on the Residential Infill Concept Report.

WHEN: November 16 at 2-4 p.m. (time certain) and 6 p.m. (to give Portlanders a chance to testify after working hours).

WHERE: Council Chambers at City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Avenue; also streamed live on the Auditor's website.

HOW: You may testify in person by signing up when you arrive. Check the Council agenda prior to the hearing to confirm the item is still scheduled. You may also testify on the recommended concept in writing:

Sunshine Division Warehouse 687 N. Thompson Street North Precinct- 449 N.E. Emerson St. East Precinct-737 SE 106th Ave. Former SE Precinct- 4735 E Burnside St.

Most likely, you would be working out of the building formerly known as SE Precinct.

Please specify which location you would like to deliver from. All cars must arrive at 9am to pick up boxes for delivery.

Time commitment will depend on the number of boxes you choose to deliver.

Sounds like tasty Mexican fare! Rotisserie chicken and sides-the pinto beans and handmade corn tortillas! Housemade salsas? The tangy slaw? The cabbage and onions cooked in the rotisserie drippings?

The new location has an agave( tequila and mezcal) and rum-focused cocktail selection along with some beer and wines.

NCs work as a part of a team with lots of Friends of Trees staff support. It's a fun and social role, with hints of customer service, advocacy, event planning, and community building.

Volunteer hours range from 1-10 hours per month, but it's also a really flexible role that can be catered to your schedule.

The Kerns neighborhood tree planting is on Saturday, February 4th, 2017.
