TECH REMINDER ABOUT INTERNET SAFETY
In a virtual environment like ours, please remember that it is important to protect your online identity. This
ARTICLE provides a new example of how hackers are now
attempting to use Gmail to steal your username and password.
- They start by sending email users what looks like an Gmail with a pdf document attachment
- When the user clicks on the document, it opens what looks like, but is not, a Google login screen
- The hackers then collect the user's login credentials and use them to access other data in the email account
To Avoid Having Passwords Hacked:
- Please make sure that when you click on any document or image in either your school or personal Gmail - Check to see that the URL that appears in the address bar is a legitimate one
- If the URL looks odd or has extra code, such as "data:text/html" at the beginning of the address, do NOT enter any information
- Close the window immediately and delete the email
Helpful Hints:
- It is important to create strong passwords, which you want to avoid sharing with others
- If an email looks like it's from a person you know, but it looks odd, contact the person directly and ask them if they sent it
- Be sure to take a peek at the URL addresses you are visiting, particularly if you are clicking links sent to you through email
- When logging in to school or public machines, make sure that you don't accidentally save your login credentials
- By taking precautions, you can go a long way toward keeping your online identity safe

GOC INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURE
Due to the unique learning environment at Gwinnett Online Campus, students have access to course content 24/7. In the event of a GCPS closure due to inclement weather, the GOC building will be closed. However, Gwinnett Online Campus will continue to deliver instruction and maintain its regular online school schedule. Learning Labs will still continue virtually. If there are widespread power outages in Gwinnett County, a plan for makeup days or extensions for due dates will be communicated as soon as possible on the GOC Website, Facebook, and Twitter. Extended deadlines are built into many of the courses which already allows flexibility in the case of brief power outages. In the event that individual students experience outages that last for more than a few hours, work extensions will be handled with students on an individual basis.
