KNA Board Elections
  Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Kerns Neighborhood Board Elections, almost time again! Now is your chance to join the KNA board and let your voice be heard!

A great way to gain leadership skills, connect with neighbors and have some input about the future of the Kerns neighborhood.

The Kerns board needs your help to keep our annual events going strong.

We currently only have 11 active board members for our entire neighborhood -- we need more people to share the love and sustain our organization!

Thanks to Mike Petticord, the Kerns/Buckman annual spring cleanup (now known as the Collection Event) is on track for April 16th this month.

We need a picnic chair for the annual National Night Out planned for Tuesday, August 2nd.

Each year, over 500 neighbors join us for an evening of fun with live music, free food and raffle prizes from local businesses.  If there are two of you out there that would be willing to coordinate activities, that would help reduce the amount of work for each person.

Main responsibilities include: getting park permits, contacting businesses for donations for the raffle (the same businesses give year after year), renting bbq equipment to cook the hotdogs, arrange table delivery, and reaching out to businesses that may want a table or other presence during the event.

Open board positions are a SE Uplift Board member and Crime Prevention Chair. We also need people to help out with the monthly responsibilities of updating the website and/or Facebook page.

Please consider becoming an active member of our board so we can continue to be a thriving neighborhood organization. We can't do it without your help!

If you are interested in helping, please reach out to me Email: orkernsna@gmail.com

Thank You, KNA Board Members

Deaf and Hard Of Hearing Portlanders

If you (or someone you know who lives in the city limits of Portland) is deaf, the Portland Fire & Rescue Bureau has free specialized smoke detectors which they will install in your home. The firefighters will also be available to provide a free fire and life safety inspection while they're there. I've highlighted the contact information below.

Portland Fire & Rescue has been awarded a $95,239 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) for an outreach campaign to increase home safety for Portland's deaf and hard of hearing community. PF&R will contribute an additional $4,761, making the total project amount $100,000. Applications are being accepted.

Interested people who are deaf and hard of hearing can find out more and apply here right now: www.FlashShakeWake.org. Those with questions can contact grant administrators at smokealarms4safety@portlandoregon.gov or call 503-823-3752 with questions.

As part of the bureau's Community Risk Reduction program, deaf and hard of hearing residents will also be able to request free fire & life safety home inspections when firefighters install their alarms.

Vehicles Are Increasingly Vulnerable to Remote Exploits

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has issued an alert warning that modern motor vehicles are increasingly vulnerable to remote attacks. Vehicle owners should take precautions in order to minimize cybersecurity risks to their vehicles.

Review the IC3 Alert for details and recommended security measures.
