Holiday Toy and Food Drive a Success 
The Pediatric Interest Group collected and donated and food to clients of the Delray Beach Health Center. Volunteer Services provided toys to 46 families (total of 108 children) of the Delray Beach Health Center. Due to the vast donation, They were able supply toys on a second day as well, to children that were visiting the Health Center. The excitement on the children and parents faces was unimaginable, and this would not be possible without the act of giving from the students of the Pediatric Interest Group.

Study Shows Chair Yoga Reduces
Pain and Increases Quality of Life
For the millions of older adults who suffer from osteoarthritis in their lower extremities (hip, knee, ankle or foot), chair yoga is proving to be an effective way to reduce pain and improve quality of life while avoiding pharmacologic treatment or adverse events. A new study, conducted by researchers, including the College's Dr. Joe Ouslander, and published in the current issue of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, is the first randomized controlled trial to examine the effects of chair yoga on pain and physical function in older adults with osteoarthritis.

Study Uses C. Elegans to Model Dopamine Transporter Behavior
College of Medicine researchers in
Randy Blakely's laboratory use
C. Elegans model to research how
the dopamine transporter localizes to synapses. In the report, the team mapped sequences in the protein that determine how this protein gets from its site of synthesis in cell bodies to the synapse where it will work to inactivate dopamine. Because the worms are transparent, the scientists can express a fluorescent protein (green fluorescent protein from jellyfish) tagged version of the transporter in the worm and see where it localizes.
