Join our presenter on February 8, 2017  as she engages participants to:
  • Identify potential areas of overlap between OT and SLP in the assessment and treatment of cognition in adult neuro rehab
  • Describe features of a cognitive communication disorder
  • Discuss the challenges and benefits of OT and SLP collaboration
  • Review a case scenario (focus on reading for return to work) which highlights OT and SLP collaboration to maximize patient outcomes
THEN join our presenter again on March 8, 2017 as she engages participants to:
  • Understand the similarities and differences between speech/verbal apraxia and limb apraxia
  • Identify the top treatment approaches for both types of apraxia
  • Examine opportunities for collaboration for assessment and treatment of apraxia
  • Explain at least 3 ways language/motor speech impairments can confound results of cognitive testing

Target Audience:

Any therapist working in neurorehabilitation, with clients who have suffered from a stroke, or who experience difficulties with apraxia. Also relevant for OTs interested in learning strategies related to collaborating with other health care professionals..

About our presenter:

Debbie has been working in the area of neurorehabilitation over the past 28 years. Her position at Toronto Rehab Institute as corporate professional leader and clinical educator enables her to take on the role of clinical associate at U of T.  Most of her research relates to this area. She has a special interest in occupation following stroke and acquired brain injury. As well she is interested in interventions for people with unilateral inattention, apraxia, memory difficulties and attention challenges. 

Lisa McQueen is Practice Leader for Speech-Language Pathology at Toronto Rehab. She has enjoyed secondments with the University of Toronto as Coordinator of Clinical Education and Clinical Lead for the UHN Stroke Lean Initiative. Her favourite role however is being a proud member of the Inpatient Stroke Team, where she has worked as a speech-language pathologist since 1999.   Lisa has a strong interest in clinical education as well as improving quality stroke care.  She holds a status only (lecturer) appointment with the University of Toronto.  She is inspired daily by her work with patients, families, students and a dynamic, interprofessional team.
