Purcell Marian Monte Carlo
Returns This Saturday, January 28!
Monte Carlo, the largest fundraiser for athletics, will take place on Saturday, January 28 here at the Castle! Doors open at 7 pm.
- Tickets are $10 at the door
- Includes two drink or food tickets
This is an adult affair held in the Eveslage Center and Alumni Hall, which are transformed into an indoor festival grounds, featuring Casino games, food, drinks and fun!

There is also a reverse raffle that takes place this evening. Tickets are $15 a piece or you can purchase a set of 5 for $60. Winners receive:

Focus of the Week: Book Bags
Book bags are not permitted in class, unless permission has been given by the
administration. Book bags are defined as any bag that has shoulder straps, or an bag in which the student is carrying books. They should be left in the student's lockers during the school day.
Dress Code Reminder - Hair
Hair must be neatly trimmed and groomed at all times. Purcell Marian students are to have natural hair color only. Student should check with the Dean of Students before they dye their hair a questionable color.

844-SaferOH Tip Line
Purcell Marian has been added to a growing number of schools that have taken advantage of the SaferOH Tip Line. By calling or texting the statewide hotline 844-SaferOH, you can report anything that is suspicious or endangering to you, your friends, or your school. This tip line can be used by students, parent, or staff to report imminent suicides, violence, bullying, or other problems or potential hazards that may occur or are occurring.

Family News
We have instituted some new ways for students to earn points for their family:
#1. Faculty and Staff can award 25 points to a student who they see doing something well around school
#2. We will have 4 students of the month, each of these students will earn 100 points for their family
#3. We will take 25 points away from a family for each demerit they receive.
Below are the updated points; we will have more opportunities to earn points throughout Catholic Schools Week:

Mr. Tobin and Ms. Winfrey will have all forms and waviers in the cafeteria at all lunches.

All, Happy New Year. Thanks again to all our parents who helped out last semester and especially for our big Teacher Appreciation Lunch at Christmas. Here's an update of items that may interest you:
Blended Learning - Parent Advisory Are you interested in discussing how Blended Learning is working for your child? Need more information on what is coming in the future? Please join the Parent Advisory, we need you. The school is asking for parent feedback on Blended Learning and how it is working for your child. You don't have to be a teacher or educational specialist to sit in on the meetings, you just have to know how your child learns. Please let Jeanine Flick know of your interest by emailing her at jeanineflick@purcellmarian.org The next meeting is February 13 at 5:30 pm in the conference room. College Credit Plus
There will be a College Credit Plus night Monday, January 23rd from 6:30 - 7:30. There will be admission counselors from Cincinnati State and University of Cincinnati to answer any questions you and your student may have. If you are interested in attending please RSVP to Sarah Castlen at 513-487-3117 or sarahcastlen@purcellmarian.org with your name, your student's name, your phone number, and email address.
If you are interested in your child participating in the College Credit Plus Program next school year, your student must take the ACT or SAT by February. Please see below for dates and deadlines.

Poetry Out Loud Returns to The Castle!
Every year the English Department participates in the national recitation contest known as Poetry Out Loud. Please encourage your student to begin thinking about this competition and
what they might like to recite.
Students can visit the Poetry Out Loud website for suggestions, tips and a sampling of past competitions, or speak with their English teachers for guidance.

Opportunities in Communities
Students -- Earn Money with Free Soccer Referee Training!
This referee training is free. No registration required. Just show up!
Part 1 Passers Referee Training and Test
Saturday March 4th 8 AM to 12 PM
Location: District Four Police Station
Police Auditorium, 4150 Reading Road
Completion of Part 1 will allow a person to referee at Passers level for SAY EAST.
Please bring paper and pencil. Test at the conclusion of the Passer training.
Part 2 Wings and Above Referee Training
Saturday March 4th 12:15 PM to 3:00 PM
Location: District Four Police Station
Police Auditorium, 4150 Reading Road
Note: If Part 1 has been completed at a prior session, only Part 2 is required.
You can attend part 1 for a review. Test at conclusion
- 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
Please bring paper and pencil.
Bring lunch if staying for both parts.
SAY Wings and Above Referee Test 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
Completion of both Parts 1 and 2, and a test score of 70% or higher will complete SAY Referee Requirements to referee at wings level and above.
Please park in the golf driving range parking lot if you plan to park your car for the duration of the training.
If you cannot attend this referee training visit the Milford Ohio SAY link http://nwccsay.com/ to see when their ref training session is. Passing any SAY Referee Training session will allow you to referee for Cincinnati East SAY.
SAY East referee shirts will be on sale at the March 4th referee training session for $10 a shirt. Please bring $10 cash or a check payable to SAY East Soccer.
