America's Diplomats Series: Applications Due Feb. 24
The World Affairs Councils of America is pleased to announce our renewed collaboration with the American Academy of Diplomacyon a program series entitled America's Diplomats. The program features a screening of the PBS film America's Diplomatsfollowed by a discussion of the role of U.S. diplomacy with a distinguished former ambassador.
Additional discussions following the film will focus on examining and analyzing what the American public wants to know about foreign policy, what they expect from foreign policy, and what makes people comfortable or uncomfortable with the conduct of American foreign policy.
All Councils may submit applications; six Councils will be selected by the Academy to participate.
About the Program
The Academy will provide a copy of the film for screening and also will make available a former ambassador to speak on the importance of contemporary American diplomacy. The event will include a Q&A session with Council audiences.
In addition to the mandatory film screening and discussion, Councils must organize the following ancillary activities:
Media engagement, such as an interview with local media outlets or editorial board
Separate roundtable discussion (60 to 90 minutes) with a small, diverse group. Examples include:
Student meeting, such as a university/high school forum
Community leader meeting with local political/business leaders
Business meeting, such as with the local chamber of commerce
The America's Diplomats program will be conducted through June 2017. Interested Councils are asked to include several preferred dates or date ranges in their proposals. Exact dates will be determined in collaboration with the American Academy of Diplomacy.
Costs and Stipends
This year, through the generous support of the Academy, WACA will provide $1,500 to each Council selected to participate in the program to help defray event expenses.
Councils will directly cover the costs of airfare and hotel as well as meals for all speakers. Councils will additionally cover costs directly related to the events, including food, publicity, facilities, audio-visual equipment, etc.
