2017 Exhibit & Tour Update
2017 Festival at VanDusen Botanical Garden
AFC's flagship event - the AFC Festival and exhibit premier opened for the first time at VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver, BC. The event was very well received and attended and the facility proved to be a superb new venue. 34 AFC artists attended the festivities, which honored Mark Hobson for his lifetime of commitment to conservation through his art. See AFC's Facebook photo album for images of the event. Most of the exhibit will next travel to Qingdao, early in 2018. More details to come.
China Exhibit
On August 4, Lanwan Museum at Lanwan Eco-Art Park in Qingdao, China, graciously hosted the first AFC Festival and Exhibit outside of North America in a brand new gallery facility on its 50-acres of parkland. 129 paintings and sculptures were displayed and a delegation of 11 artists were in attendance for the opening weekend. Luminaries included the Mayor of Qingdao's High Tech District, Canada's Charge d'Affaires (Vice-Ambassador), and the Vice President of the International Ornithological Union were present for the ceremonies. Unsold artwork has just safely returned to Vancouver and will be dispersed to members in January. See AFC's Facebook photo album of the event. The event was a very successful first exhibit in China, and we're excited to announce that we will be returning in 2018. Opening dates to be announced shortly.
Virtual Exhibit
On December 1, the 2017 AFC Virtual Exhibit opened. If you haven't visited yet, please have a look and share. www.artistsforconservation.org/virtual-exhibit. The exhibit features all artworks of the 2017 juried exhibit.
Looking Ahead to 2018
In 2016, we were excited to announce a partnership with one of the world's oldest and most important global organizations dedicated to bird studies - the 27th International Ornithological Congress (IOCongress2018) in Vancouver, Canada. Under the arrangement, AFC becomes the Congress' lead Partner for the Visual Arts. AFC's 2018 Festival and exhibit premiere will coincide with the late August event. The Congress occurs every four years since first being held in Vienna, Austria, in 1884. The event traditionally attracts thousands of international bird scientists, patrons, researchers and birders. The main event will be held in Vancouver's waterfront Convention Center in the epicenter of the city. For more information about the Congress, visit http://www.iocongress2018.com/.

AFC is planning several large-scale initiatives leading up to and during the 2018 event, including AFC's annual exhibit, a collaborative mural mosaic of endangered birds and art expo. All AFC members are strongly encouraged to participate in one or more of these programs during this special year. Following are some key opportunities for AFC Members:
  • AFC's 11th Annual Juried Exhibit
  • Silent Skies Collaborative Mural Project
  • AFC 2018 Art Expo (Display Booths)
  • Demos and Presentations
  • Circle of Patrons

AFC's Annual Juried Exhibit
2018 will be AFC's 11th year for AFC's annual exhibit and conservation benefit. The exhibit assembles many of the world's greatest nature and wildlife artists in a common cause for conservation and since its inception in 2008 established itself as the world's foremost conservation-themed art exhibit in the world today. Each year, following its premiere in Vancouver, Canada, the exhibit tours internationally. For the first time in 2018, the exhibit will be themed to feature birds predominantly, as a result of a special collaboration with the International Ornithological Congress.
In keeping with the topic of our special collaboration with the International Ornithological Congress, all artwork submissions for the exhibit SHOULD have a bird subject (ideally identifiable) or other bird-related component. While we may still accept a limited number of artworks with no bird-related elements, we will be prioritizing those artworks that adhere to the theme. (Download Prospectus for Details).

Silent Skies Collaborative Mural Project
"Silent Skies" is AFC's first international collaborative mural project featuring all 678 endangered species of birds of the world. The installation will form the artistic centerpiece of the 27th International Ornithological Congress. The original artwork will go on international tour to select cultural/scientific venues and a limited number of canvas giclee editions of each will also be available for sale. Proceeds shared between artist, AFC and bird conservation. Register here and use
secret code "iocongress2018".  ( Download Prospectus for Details
