Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of February 6 - 10

The Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is an 18-month construction project to repair infrastructure and improve multi-modal use of Miller Avenue, including addressing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities, providing better transit access, and improving motorist safety.

Construction began the week of June 13, 2016 and will continue through 2017. Please note that all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather restrictions and other unforeseen delays.

Here is the latest news on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project:

What happened last week:
The contractor lost two days of work due to inclement weather. Work crews continued to create island medians on Miller Avenue between La Goma Street and Evergreen Avenue. The contractor began excavation and demolition for future center island medians on Miller Avenue between Evergreen Avenue and Super Duper Burger at 430 Miller Avenue. The contractor demolished the existing concrete sidewalk in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Sunnyside Avenue, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. Work crews continued to install electrical light pole foundations and service points in the center island medians and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews installed underground wiring for temporary power of street lights along the north side of Miller Avenue - that power will provide electricity the lights when they are placed. The contractor finished the installation of electrical and irrigation crossing sleeves on the north side of Miller Avenue between Willow Street and Valley Circle and at other locations to allow future services to be installed when the time comes.

What is happening this week:
The contractor was unable to do any work so far this week due to inclement weather, and the forecast indicates that no work will occur because of continued rain. Work crews will continue construction activity if there is a break in the weather. If work continues this week, the contractor will do excavation and demolition for center island medians on Miller Avenue between Evergreen Avenue and Super Duper Burger at 430 Miller Avenue.

What to expect in the next few weeks:
Work crews will demolish the existing concrete sidewalk and place the new sidewalk in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Sunnyside Avenue, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. The contractor will place the irrigation systems and planting soil in the center island medians between Willow Street and Valley Circle. Work crews will place a stone wall along the south side of Miller Avenue at the intersection with Willow Street. The contractor will close a portion of La Goma Street during daytime hours for 2-3 days for the placement of underground check valves and a storm drain manhole.

NOTE: All forecasted work is contingent on weather. Periods of heavy rain prevent work from occur and the scheduled work is pushed back accordingly.

Almonte/Miller Intersection Meeting

Please join us on March 2, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Mill Valley Community Center Mountain View Room to discuss concerns raised about the Miller/Almonte intersection.

What Will Miller Avenue Look Like?

We are pleased to share a new rendering to help illustrate to the community the future design of the Main Street section of Miller Avenue.

The image shows the new street configuration, bike lanes, crosswalks (including pedestrian flashing beacons), street furniture such as benches and streetlights, as well as sustainability measures such as rain gardens and the new Reed Creek Overlook. It also indicates the location of sidewalk trees, median trees, and examples of future plantings.

The image is also available for review in person at the Civic Parking lot (411 Miller Avenue), and in the City Hall lobby (26 Corte Madera Ave), which is open Monday through Thursday and alternate Fridays from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Check the City Calendar for the Friday City Hall schedule.
