2 days left to forecast!

Planning for the 2017 REMC Device Purchasing Bid is underway. To begin forecasting, please log in to the REMC Save Bid Project  here.

The REMC Device Purchasing Forecast Window is open until February 10, 2017

Forecasting your potential device purchases is critical to receiving the highest possible discounts on devices for our Michigan schools! Note: Your forecast is not binding, i.e., you may purchase different devices and different quantities, once the actual bid awards are made.

FYI: Over Half A Million Devices have been purchased for our Michigan Public Schools in only 4 years. Let's keep up this momentum!

2017 Digital Source Files - Release on DLDay!

The 2017 digital source file release is right around the corner! MI Open Book is pleased to announce the source files for 3rd-8th Grade, as well as HS US and HS Econ will be released in both iBooks Author AND Microsoft Word format this year on Digital Learning Day (February 23, 2017).

While discontinuing support for InDesign, we are excited about the possibilities that editing a rich text design in Microsoft Word format will bring to the Michigan OER movement.

Eager to get started? Check out our YouTube channel for two new videos on editing the books in Microsoft Word Format, and tweet @MIOpenBook with Hashtag #FreeBooks #OERyouKidding on Digital Learning Day to celebrate grabbing your own copy of our free materials!

oersurveyOpen Educational Resources (OER) Survey

As Michigan moves forward as a #GoOpen state, there are a community of educators working to make this effort result in a meaningful adoption of Open Educational Resources (OERs). Michigan's OER initiative provides access to high-quality open educational resources to increase equity and transform teaching and learning. Find out more about #GoOpen in Michigan  here.

What are OERs?
OERs are teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under a license that permits their free use, reuse, modification, and sharing with others.

What can you do to help?
We have a need to gather information about what you or your colleagues are already using. Please help us by taking this short survey (https://tinyurl.com/jm9ycvp).

Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide us with important information as Michigan's #GoOpen initiative moves forward!

testingtipsTesting Tech Tips

Recent discussions with schools have identified some good tips for smoothing potential network issues during WIDA, M-STEP, MI-Access or Early Literacy and Mathematics Benchmark Assessments.
  • Make sure your firewall is not blocking your Testing Sight Managers (TSMs).
  • Make sure your firewall has enough outbound connections available. If you regularly approach or hit your limit for outbound connections, that could cause disconnects during testing.
  • Whitelist DRC's URLs. This year we are whitelisting URLs, not IP addresses, to take advantage of secure cloud services. That list is below. Please note the addition of Amazon's secure cloud.
  • Your student's connection is most fragile while loading INSIGHT. Once you reach the login page, you are good to go, but your connection may be taxed if entire rooms of students are starting INSIGHT at the same time. You can avoid this on shared computers by starting INSIGHT before students arrive. If INSIGHT disconnects while starting, you can simply start it again; most students will have succeeded on the first try, so the connection will no longer be taxed. If this is a recurring problem, you can preemptively stagger logins, perhaps having half the room wait 30-60 seconds while the first half load INSIGHT.

Each month, the TRIG Project Managers put together bullet points of updates from their projects that may be useful to the field in communicating out about TRIG. These are then published on the  TRIG Website  under the Communications tab or here if you would like to take a look at past months.
