DO I NEED A LIFE COACH?
|
Read these questions, answer honestly, and note your internal reactions. If any of them hit the mark, now may be the right time to engage a Coach.
Do you feel dissatisfied with your life?
Do you ever ask yourself, "Is this all there is?" Are you filled with wants that are not being expressed or needs that are not being met? Are you overwhelmed much of the time? Do you live your day according to your "To Do" list? Do you feel stuck in certain areas of your life? Are you at a possible crossroads in your life? Are you hesitant or afraid? Are you doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results? |

I traditionally write a newsletter at the beginning of the New Year. January flew by. But here I am!
This year I am offering some ideas on manifestation along with 3 tools to help each reader manifest more of what they want in their lives. I highly recommend doing the first two exercises, regularly. The third one is optional. Some of you may find it powerful; others will find it too difficult.
The mission of this newsletter to help people become more intentional and aware, and provide tools for doing so.

Please Read -- Main Points
|
|
1. It is a rare adult that comes into my office with the ability to dream. It has been lost or has been severely shut down.
2. Dreaming, wishing, desiring, wanting are at the core of being human. We can see it in children. They are Masters of Dreaming. But as children move toward adulthood, they begin to lose this ability. The dreaming muscle starts to atrophy. Families and society begin to demand that one "be realistic", "stop daydreaming" and in modern day parlance: get with the program.
"I believed at twelve, that I could be a scientist.... I believed I could be a writer, an actress, a professor of English in Rome, an acrobat in a purple spangled outfit. Days opened for me like the pulling apart of curtains at a play you've been dying to see. My life was like a wild, beating thing, exotic, capable of unfolding and enlarging itself, pulling itself higher and higher up like a kite loved by the wind....There in front of me, my own for the taking. And then, suddenly, lost.
--Elizabeth Berg, The Pull of the Moon
3. What's wrong with being realistic? Nothing. It is very helpful for managing life. But to live one's life with that being the centerpiece -- the Main Act in Your Play.. ...... is not only small and limiting, especially given #4 & #5 and #7 below.
4. Take a moment right now and look around.
Everything you see, except for nature*, started out as a thought (idea, dream, wish, desire). The house you live in. The roads you travel on. The grocery store. The neighborhood you live in. The pyramids. The Golden Gate Bridge. Your business. Your career. Empire State Building. Museums. The paintings in your home. Your partner. All music. The computer you use. Cell phones!
5. This is a core truth about living here on Earth:
Thought -- a powerful tool of human beings -- turns into form. Another way of saying this is: the unmanifest turns into the manifest.
6. And another word for manifest is
CREATE.
7. Bottom line: We are all creators here on Earth, creating first through thought. As Lynne McTaggart, author of
The Field and
The Intention Experiment, explained during a telecourse I took several years ago:
The{Quantum}** universe is like unformed jello and when we put our attention [thought] on something, the jello begins to form.
8. Sooooooo........if these ideas resonate with you in any way, the question for today's newsletter is: What creations do you want to create in 2017? And of course, what creations do you want to manifest over the course of your life?
Please read the next few sections to assist you in answering those two questions.
*No sense taking credit for the Grand Canyon, eh?
** By stating Quantum Universe, I am opening up this topic for future newsletters. Yes, we are all living in a Quantum Universe.

1. Dream/Wish Book
|
|
Buy a lovely journal or simple notebook. Entitle it:
My Wishes, Dreams, Desires.
When you are ready to engage, sit down and begin to list as many desires, dreams, wishes, fascinations, inspirations, etc. that you can think of. The wishes should be small, medium, large, and huge!
You do not need to prioritize this list. No order is necessary.
And do not justify the items on your list.
You do not have to know "how" you will achieve them.
Do not use "realism" as your criteria. Simply begin to rebuild your dreaming muscle, and hopefully with a little bit of practice, your natural ability to dream will return, never to be forgotten again.
A sampling of some of mine: I want to eat healthy delicious foods. I want to know more about permaculture. I want to really learn french. Maybe live in Provence, France for a month. I want my kitchen updated. I want strong, beautiful nails. I may want to get my PhD. I want a strong meditation practice. I want more fun in my life. I want to spend at least one week a year at the ocean. No, four! I want to get involved in some way with helping refugees and changing this world. I want to be an art quilter. I want to become more and more creative. I want to practice random acts of kindness every day. I want to learn to knit well. I want more adventure.
Please note that in that list above :
I do not worry about "how". Worrying about "how" will stop you from building your dream muscle. Further,
I do not analyze or critique myself in this notebook.
Shoulds should not be included in your dream book!!!!
Therefore, I urge each of you to try listing 10-20 dreams/wishes/wants right off the bat, and then add to the list every time you think of something else or new. This should be uh....fun! You can even change your mind, one day wanting one thing and the next day wanting something completely different. No one will see nor judge this list. This list is a list about you as you are unfolding each and every day - no one else.
For those readers who are visual, you may want to add pictures, draw, cut & paste quotes, doodle. Whatever you wish!
If it is hard for you to understand how or why this is important, and your Critical Voice is ranting about how silly or unnecessary or stupid this is...... Think of this notebook as
:
You Seeding Your Garden
I can't imagine anyone wanting a garden with only one or two plants in it, correct? So don't forget:
Psst.......If you have trouble writing more than a few items in your dream book, you may need to explore your beliefs. I'll bet you have some rigid beliefs that are stopping you.
|
2. Scripting
|
|
We are all in the habit of looking at what was and what is, according to our beliefs.
Scripting helps move you out of that rigid, repetitive and uncreative box. It also helps clear the mind and allows more to happen than our day-to-day habitual patterns of thinking.
Ok. So what is scripting?
Scripting is writing a short scene about anything you want to manifest! It should be entered into from a playful perspective (which is hard for a lot of adults!).
Do not approach this from the attitude: I must have this or else.
Choose something that you want to manifest. Write about it as a story, with dialogue and scenery. Use your imagination. Write it in the past tense, as if it has happened and was/is real. Have fun. Some of you may want to integrate things you are going to do anyway or things that you know will happen with creative additions. Others will make it all up. Either is fine. Let yourself feel the fun of creating this script for yourself and your life, with no attachment though. It is meant to be a creative, imaginative exercise using thought and attention. When you are done, notice how you feel. If you feel good, you are on the right track! Then, let the story go. Don't be attached to that story and that outcome. In the Quantum Universe, there is a field of possibilities. Don't try and micro-manage the Field!!!
The next day or week, write another one. Enjoy the process. As you work with scripting, you may be amazed at what turns up in your life.
Psst. You are the author of your life!
|
3. The circle that is you
|
|
The following exercise may be slightly harder, but can be very powerful.
1. Make a list of all the ways you see yourself. For many people this will tend to be a list of roles and their history and their judgments of themselves and perhaps others' judgments. It may include your current dreams or goals or resolutions. Draw a circle around the list. That list represents you, as you see you right now.
2. Then to the side or above this list/circle, make a second list of all that you hope for, and what would make your life wild and juicy beyond your wildest dreams. Be fearless. You can also include qualities you aspire to embody.
Don't engage in the kinds of habitual limitations in your thinking/analysis you did in the first circle.
As you engage in this different process, which is not related to one's history and judgments, notice how much "bigger" this feels. If it does not have that "bigger, more expansive" feeling, then work on it until it does. Don't limit yourself. Go out on a limb. Get larger than life. Define who you want to be, and the life that you truly want. Get out of your box.
Examples:
If you want to write that best seller, if you want to invent something, if you want to own a cabin in the woods, don't hesitate to write it down. Maybe you want to learn Vietnamese and live in Vietnam for a year, write it down. Maybe you want to learn massage but now work in middle management in a large business. Write it down anyway. Perhaps you hope to become a spiritual counselor? Maybe you hope to be more compassionate and grounded. Courageous? Maybe you want to fall madly in love with someone who will open your heart? Maybe you want to meet the Dali Llama? Go to Antarctica? Learn the Tango? Join a group working for women in Guatemala? Or all of the above?
3. At some point, when you feel ready --
this is the tough part -- draw a bold circle around both lists, and label the larger circle "ME". Notice and and feel the difference between the small, safe, judged, habituated version of you (based on your history and on your historical ways of thinking and the culture's imprint on you) and the fuller you (based on your dreams, wishes, inspirations, and yes, even your soul's yearning) represented by the larger circle.
Which circle do you want to live in? The small one or the larger?
Choose. Claim what is you.
Pssst: We are all doing it every day anyway (claiming what we are), so why not get out of your small self and choose more!

We all have an obligation to daydream...
|
|
"We all - adults and children... - have an obligation to daydream. We have an obligation to imagine. It is easy to pretend that nobody can change anything, that we are in a world in which society is huge and the individual is less than nothing: an atom in a wall, a grain of rice in a rice field. But the truth is, individuals change their world over and over, individuals make the future, and they do it by imagining that things can be different." -- Neil Gaiman, writer

John Lennon

"Imagine"
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace... You...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world... You...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
