Spread Awareness during American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month and a great opportunity
to help spread awareness about preventing heart disease. The American Heart Association (AHA) reports heart disease and related conditions cost the U.S. roughly $313 billion each year between healthcare, medication, and lost productivity. Many forms of heart disease can be prevented or managed with a healthy lifestyle - maintaining a healthy diet, staying active, regularly checking blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and taking the appropriate medications.

One way you can make a difference is to encourage your employees and their families to make small changes, like reducing the amount of salt in their diets. According to the AHA, 9 out of 10 Americans consume too much sodium. They recommend consuming no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. In addition to high blood pressure, excess levels of sodium may put you at risk for stroke, heart failure, kidney stones, osteoporosis, and other diseases. The AHA created "The Salty Six" to show you the foods that contribute the most sodium to our diets. We encourage you to help us take a stand against heart disease by sharing this information with your employees and promoting heart-healthy meals.

HiDoc Consultations

Y ou've probably heard about our telemedicine service through HiDoc, and perhaps some of your employees already gave it a try using a phone or computer. Here is a reminder about why HiDoc can be so beneficial, and w e encourage you to share this information with your employees.
  1. It's a great option when you need non-emergent care. HiDoc consultations provide medical care without a trip to the ER or urgent care clinic, and you avoid the risk of being exposed to other communicable illnesses - especially for children. Not sure when you should consult with a HiDoc physician instead of going to the ER or urgent care center?  View our guide to help you decide.
  2. A doctor is available whenever you need one. HiDoc physicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a wait time of 30 minutes or less. They are intended to work in tandem with your primary care physician and not as a replacement.
  3. It's convenient, with no out-of-pocket cost to you. You don't have to take time off from work or family responsibilities to sit in traffic or search for parking at your doctor's office. Instead, you can have a confidential consultation with a physician through HiDoc wherever you are and at no out-of-pocket cost.
