| Join Us for Breakfast - Wednesday, May 17 |
Breakthrough Manchester's "Back to Summer Breakfast" will be held on Wednesday, May 17 from 7:30-9:00 am in the Banquet Hall at Southern NH University.
Now in its third year, this event celebrates the success of our Students Teaching Students program and the six-year tuition-free pipeline that supports high-potential Manchester students with limited opportunities, from sixth grade through college matriculation.
Featuring our current and former students and Teaching Fellows, the Breakfast is the next best way to experience Breakthrough, short of joining us for a morning of the summer session!
The Back to Summer Breakfast is our single largest community friend- and fund-raising event, and all attendees will be asked to consider a contribution to the program.
Breakthrough Manchester represents a unique partnership between The Derryfield School, Southern NH University, the Manchester School District and the national Breakthrough Collaborative.

| Rockport Mortgage Signs on as a Student Sponsor |
Rockport Mortgage ROCKS!
As a
Student Sponsor ($2,500) Rockport Mortgage Corp. enables the full participation of a Manchester middle school student in the tuition-free Breakthrough summer and school-year Saturday programs; all academics, field trips, meals and transportation are provided at no cost. The company will also present an end-of-summer Director's Award to a student in the company's name.
Teaching Fellow Sponsors ($1,200) cover the base living stipend for a college undergraduate who works 10-12 hour days over an intensive 9-week summer internship; TF sponsors will also be on hand to present an end-of-summer Director's award to a selected Teaching Fellow.
Back to Summer Breakfast Sponsors can select from more traditional levels of event support, ranging from $500 to $7,500.

The last day to apply for a summer Teaching Fellowship at any of the twenty-four Breakthrough affiliates across the country is February 23.
The Breakthrough Teaching Fellowship at Manchester is like no other experience; both exhausting and exhilarating, the whirlwind summer is full of opportunities for responsibility and personal growth. Having high expectations means a lot of hard work, long days, and always looking for ways to be more effective. It promises to be one of the most challenging and inspiring nine weeks of your life. Which is exactly why the most hard working and talented college students (and some exceptional high school students) love this opportunity!

started a similar program in Cambridge more than 20 years ago - now known as Breakthrough Greater Boston. Yet another example of the ripple effect that Breakthrough teaching alumni have across the country and across the globe.

| Sixth Grade Students Invited to Apply |
Application Deadline - March 10
The application process is open for current sixth grade students in Manchester to join the Breakthrough community this summer. The deadline for applications is March 10.
Completed applications include a student section, a parent section, a teacher recommendation and grades and test scores from the guidance office. Accepted students enter a multi-year, tuition-free program designed to inspire and support them on the path to college.

Breakthrough Student and Teacher Alum Wins International Fellowship
|
Congratulations, Aseeb!
Following a highly competitive nationwide contest, Aseebulla Niazi was recently selected as one of only 30 recipients for the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship. The Fellowship provides funding for a two year graduate program and two internships, followed by a five year appointment as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. State Department.
Aseeb applied for and was admitted to Breakthrough Manchester as a fifth grader, and one door of opportunity led to the next - first Breakthrough, then The Derryfield School, then UNH.
"Aseeb's story is a remarkable one, and as a Foreign Service officer, he will be an excellent exemplar of the possibilities open to new Americans who possess the motivation, vision and work ethic to succeed," notes Jeanne Sokolowski, director of UNH's Office of National Fellowships.
Niazi, who is originally from Afghanistan, received his bachelor's degree from UNH with a dual major in international business and economics and international affairs. He has studied abroad in the United Arab Emirates and worked at the Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success and the World Affairs Council and as a congressional staff member for Rep. Ann Kuster, D-New Hampshire, focusing on energy, the environment and agriculture policy as well as immigration casework.
"The Rangel Fellowship supports extraordinary individuals, and our selection panel was very impressed by Aseebulla's intelligence, achievements and commitment to service," notes Patricia Scroggs, the Rangel Program's director.

A Unique College Access Pipeline - Right Here in the Queen City!

For 25 years, Breakthrough Manchester at The Derryfield School (originally called Summerbridge) has worked with Manchester middle school students who have high academic potential but limited opportunities for enrichment and advancement, particularly during the summer months.
Now, through a partnership with Southern NH University, Breakthrough extends mentoring, periodic workshops, college counseling and school-year enrichment activities for these students right through their entry into college.
Although the entire six-year program is tuition-free, students "pay" for the program through their consistent attendance, hard work and perseverance.

Our Mission
The dual missions of Breakthrough Manchester are to launch promising Manchester middle school students, particularly those with limited opportunities, on the path to college while inspiring high school and college students to pursue careers in education.
We do this by:
* Recruiting and selectively admitting high-potential sixth graders with limited opportunities from Manchester middle schools for a tuition-free, three-year program
* Providing three rigorous, joyful academic summers and school year supports to admitted students during their middle school years
* Connecting ninth graders with the Breakthrough College-Bound program at Southern NH University to create a seamless pipeline of opportunity
* Recruiting, training, mentoring and supporting college students, and some local high-achieving high school students, as excellent teachers
* Engaging a broad array of stakeholders in understanding, promoting, funding and championing both missions of Breakthrough.
