The February issue includes Transgender health equity is a pressing issue, and public health is paying attention. Can stories and training help? written by Texas Health Institute's team working on transgender education including John Oeffinger, Lou Weaver, Justine Price, Danielle M. Skidmore, Yoonhwi Cho. Lou, Justine, and Danielle provide three voices with stories, insights, and recommendations about being transgender and gender-affirming transitioning within health systems. Their stories illustrate some of the difficulties trans people have navigating the world. It's also not just adults. Trans youth and children, as well as their parents and families, face numerous obstacles in their daily lives. Trans people need a community that cares-a community that accepts them for who they are. A little respect can go a long way in reducing psychological distress. Public health practitioners can take the first steps towards a trans culturally competent workforce by being supportive and respectful.
