Budget Engagement Forums with the Mayor
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser recently announced that she will host three Budget Engagement Forums throughout the District on February 25th, 27th and 29th. The forums, which will be open to the press and the public, are designed to solicit public comments and input as the Bowser Administration shapes priorities and investments. Each committee of the DC Council will have an oversight hearing on agencies under its purview to discuss the executive agencies' performance, FY 2016 and FY 2017 to date.

DC Chamber hosts the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)
The Chamber's first "Morning Fix" of the year, held on January 31 in partnership with
the Department of Small and Local
Business Development (DSLBD) was a "standing room only" event. With more than 70 members of the DC Chamber and participants from certified business enterprises, the event highlighted best practices in navigating the procurement process - which allocates more than $500 million in contract opportunities to small businesses in the District. DLSBD representatives shared resources from the Small Business Enterprises Opportunity Guide

Green Book
) and details on the procurement opportunities allocated to small businesses.

ICYMI: Dozens gather for roundtable with DC Planning Director
New initiatives, Upcoming plan revisions discussed
On February 8, the DC Chamber hosted DC Planning Director Eric Shaw to engage participants around major initiatives and upcoming revisions to the DC Comprehensive Plan -
the framework that guides future growth and
development in the city.
The DC comprehensive plan addresses a wide range of topics integral to the business community, including land use, development, housing, transportation, environmental protection, historic preservation, and more.
Key Points
- The District of Columbia is adding nearly 1,000 residents to its population per month, and developing neighborhoods rapidly.
- Two-thirds of the city's workforce commutes into DC from beyond our eight wards. How does this impact the city's infrastructure? How does this growth connect to the city's priorities and the needs of the private sector?
The DC Office of Planning will open up the amendment process to incorporate public comments and the City's current plans into one comprehensive plan in March. It will be important to make sure that any revisions to the comprehensive plan do not limit existing entrepreneurs or negatively affect the established retail corridors.
