Every child who needs a mentor should have a mentor.

Capacity-Building Resource:
Host an AmeriCorps VISTA Member

VMP is currently seeking program host sites for our 2017-2018 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are placed at mentoring programs across the state for a one year, 40 hour per week commitment in order to build program capacity and sustainability.

They also will need to express the need for increased capacity within their mentoring programs.  They will commit to sustainability measures and quality mentoring based on the Elements of Effective Practice in Mentoring. Finally, they will be asked to make a financial investment of a cost-share consisting of $5,500 to support costs associated with the grant's administration, supervision, and training.

Applications are due by Monday, February 20th. If interested, please contact VISTA Supervisor Vanessa Reyes immediately to begin the application process.

 National Mentoring Month
In case yo u miss ed it, January was recognized by President Obama  as National Mentoring Month, a time to  raise awareness about the  benefits of mentoring and recruit new  mentors.
Congratulations to our mentoring program  partners and volunteers on another successful National Mentoring M onth!

Many of our program partners were featured in media stories, planned special events, and shared their inspiring mentoring stories. VMP celebrated with a flurry of trainings, advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, and media spotlights, including a proclamation from Delegate Betsy Carr on National Mentoring Month, an NBC12 Viewpoint segment with Kym Grinnage and a  Richmond Times-Dispatch Letter to the Editor
by Laura Leporati, program coordinator for AMP! Metro Richmond and VMP Technical Assistance Provider.

To cap off National Mentoring Month, VMP's staff attended MENTOR's National Mentoring Summit, hosted in Washington D.C. Staff advocated on the Hill for legislation supporting mentoring, exchanged ideas with members of other state mentoring partnerships, caught up with program coordinators from across the state, and attended workshops to learn more about latest research of best program practices across the country.

Miss the event? Materials from several workshop sessions are available online. Click here to learn more.
