American Institute of Architects Elevates 3 Louisiana Architects to the College of Fellows
The 2017 Jury of Fellows from the American Institute of A
rchitects
(AIA) elevated 178 AIA members to its prestigious College of
Fellows, an honor
awarded to members who have made significant contributions to
the profession.
The 2017 Fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony a
t the AIA Conference on
Architecture in Orlando, Florida.
The Fellowship program was developed to elevate those architec
ts who have made a
significant contribution to architecture and society and wh
o have achieved a standard of
excellence in the profession. Election to fellowship not
only recognizes the achievements
of architects as individuals, but also their significant
contribution to architecture and
society on a national level.
A prolific designer of zoos and aquariums, Ace Torre combines architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and illustration to immerse and educate millions, save endangered species, and create advocacy for the world's global conservation agenda. Ace Torre has planned and designed 47 major zoo and aquarium projects - in some cases executing master plans over decades - and become a leader in the field. He is educated, licensed, and experienced in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and interior design - all of which are essential to successful zoo and aquarium design. Read more
Peter M. Trapolin, FAIA
Peter Trapolin's contributions as advocate, educator, and volunteer in New Orleans' historic districts steered neighborhoods out of dilapidation and helped generate vibrant communities that serve as a model for the historic preservation marketplace nationwide.
Mr. Trapolin earned his Master of Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1977, with significant coursework at the University of Liverpool. As a young alumnus he worked briefly with two architects before founding Peter M. Trapolin & Associates in 1981. The firm grew steadily with a commensurate impact on the surrounding Warehouse District neighborhood. Mr. Trapolin added partner Paula M. Peer in 2009, spurring the Trapolin-Peer Architects rebranding efforts. Read more

We've assembled a compelling group of speakers, so join over 250 of your fellow architects and students from across the state at the Manship Theatre at Shaw Center for the Arts in downtown Baton Rouge. Our three speakers will begin the morning session by presenting an overview of each of their firm's work. The afternoon session follows, and allows each speaker to delve deep into a single project; describing the inception, design process, and resolution. It promises to be a day of architectural inspiration, a chance to interact with colleagues, and have a little fun in the process at a great venue.
