Rector's Reflections

Seeing and Telling Who Jesus Is
The time after Epiphany is the church's time to invite us to come and see who this one born in a manger will be, and to discover what this one born to a young woman might mean for us and for the world. Sunday's gospel tells us that Jesus is the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world," "the Son of God," and "the Messiah." These appellations show us that the coming of Jesus has meaning not just for those who follow him, but for all people and all the world. In the gospel, neither John nor Andrew can contain their testimony about who Jesus is. They have had an encounter with Christ that has had such an impact on their lives that they cannot help but tell others about it. John tells his disciples and everyone else within earshot about Jesus. Andrew runs to find his brother, Peter, and brings him to Jesus so that Peter might have the same life-changing encounter he himself has experienced.

This Sunday, January 15, 2017 is the Second Sunday after Epiphany and we are invited to "come and see" who Jesus is. We are reminded that God's forgiveness and love proclaimed in Jesus Christ is meant to be good news for us and for all people. As we encounter Christ, our lives are changed. Like John and Andrew in the gospel reading, we are called to share with others who we have seen Jesus to be. [Sundays and Seasons, 2017]

P.S. This week (1/14-21) I will be on retreat with four clergy colleagues and their families for rest and renewal. For pastoral emergencies please contact Deb Hoyt in the office or Senior Warden Don Holm who can connect you with clergy covering.

Annual Meeting Affirmations

We Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.  [1 Peter 4:10]

We are looking to recognize Saints for faithful service to God in our parish at our annual meeting on Sunday, January 29th. Please contact the church office allsaints@metrocast.net  or Pastor Bill to nominate individuals.

NEW BIBLE STUDY Starts on Thursday, January 5th.

Join us as we more deeply into God's Word. We will walk through Romans to bring contemporary application of Scripture to life. Discover how you can participate more fully in God's kingdom as we read through Paul's letter to the Romans. We gather Thursday afternoons 3:00-4:00 pm followed by a brief Eucharist in the Beck Memorial Library.

Wolfeboro Reads

Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn't commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship-and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Just Mercy is at once an unforgettable account of an idealistic, gifted young lawyer's coming of age, a moving window into the lives of those he has defended, and an inspiring argument for compassion in the pursuit of true justice.

Annual Reports
ANNUAL REPORTS: Deb will be looking forward to your committee reports sooner rather than later.  All reports will be due by January 15th to allow enough time to put the report together for Annual Meeting Sunday on January 29th.   If you have any questions please contact the office.  You may email your report to allsaints@metrocast.net. Thank you.

Anne Hunt

photo taken July 16, 2016

Anne Hunt is a revered member of the All Saints family.  She is currently a member of the Vestry, and chairs the hospitality committee.  As part of that committee she has organized coffee hours, and various church functions and dinners.

Anne was diagnosed in late October with glioblastoma.  She stated that the brain tumor is located just to the left of her left eye.  After surgery, she received three weeks of oral chemotherapy, and radiation at the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, NH.

Anne recently experienced a left detached retina that caused her to lose vision in that eye. The retina was reconnected surgically last week in Boston. A few days ago Anne met with her doctors and received good news that the attached retina is healing nicely.  This week Anne was able to resume oral chemotherapy and radiation.  The treatments will end on January 31st.

Anne would like to thank everyone for their support, encouragement, and prayers.  Even though Anne has not been cleared to drive, her family has provided amazing support, and because of that she has not needed outside help for appointments.

Anne welcomes contact. Her phone number is 569-5650.  We continue to hold Anne and her family in our thoughts and prayers.

Almighty and gracious God, we give you thanks that you have protected Anne during surgery. Grant her comfort and strength for the next part of her treatment journey; that, receiving your healing gifts through the gifts of medical professionals, she may be restored to wholeness with a thankful heart; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Sarah shows one of many vintage Thonet Bentwood chairs that are being restored. Sanctuary painting will begin on Monday, January 16th.  It is anticipated that the sanctuary will be available for use by the end of the week.
