Executive Functions and the Teenage Brain Presentation to be Held February 2, 2017
|
Don't Miss this Interesting Discussion!
Executive Functions and the Teenage Brain Presenter: Dr. Georgia Bozeday, Rush Neurobehavioral Center Education Department Date: Thursday, February 2, 2017 Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm (includes a Q&A) Location: West Campus
Dr. Bozeday will explore the unique and sometimes confounding nature of the teenage brain. Research technology in the twenty-first century provides us with exciting opportunities to study the ever-changing human brain from infancy through the senior years. Accordingly, we can now better understand adolescent behavior and examine best approaches in parenting and teaching. Questions from topics based on research in educational neuroscience that will be incorporated into Dr. Bozeday's presentation include:
- Is high school too late for kids to develop executive function skills like developing better organizational skills, maintaining routines, managing time, and balancing school work, extra-curricular activities, and family?
- What role does sleep play in the development of the teenage brain?
- How does memory develop for teens? How can we know what sticks and what doesn't?
- When are stress and anxiety motivating and when do these emotions get in the way?
- Is media helping or detracting from our kids' ability to succeed?

Your Input is Important!
|
Lake Forest High School is committed to continually reviewing and improving our school, but we cannot do this without you!
In early February, you will receive a link to a comprehensive climate survey. The survey is designed to assess perceptions of the environment within the schools, including safety, relationships and support for learning.
The National School Climate Center (NSCC), a national leader in school surveys and data analysis developed the survey. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete and will be given to all students, parents and school personnel (9-12).
Your feedback is important to help us understand and improve our schools. All responses are anonymous.
NSCC will compile the results and conduct a thorough data analysis, after which they will send us a detailed report. These findings will be analyzed by the district and school's leadership teams and will be used to inform future planning initiatives. We will share the results with you once all the information has been received.
We hope you will join us in this effort to make our schools an even better place to learn.

|
Lake Forest High School is pleased to announce the establishment of a new a Theater Department. Students have the opportunity to choose from three classes: Theater 1, Theater 2, and Stagecraft and Theater Tech Design. Our revised schedule and student interest allowed us to make the long-awaited vision a reality.
Through the study and production of theater, students will work not only on performance and technical skills but also on building skills such as team - work, dynamic presentation, problem-solving, time- management, and many other skills valued across all professions. Through our classes, we hope to build and nurture creative expression and individuality among our students. As a department, we hope to develop individuals who are aesthetically aware, artistically disciplined, and adept in the performing arts while also promoting creative thinking, building cognitive skills, and boosting self-confidence.
