Consideration of Building Lease
Historic Midtown Development Group d/b/a Historic Downtown Sikeston has expressed interest in utilizing 215 N New Madrid as headquarters for their organization, development of a business incubator facility, and possible sublease to other complementary users. Acceptance of FY-2016 Financial Audit
Council will be asked to accept the City's FY-16 Financial audit. Every year, the city undergoes an independent audit of its financial statements by a certified public accountant. The audit of the Fiscal Year 2016 financials has been completed by Bucher, Essner and Miles, L.L.C. Residents may access the audit online at FY-16 Financial Audit.
The FY-16 Financial Audit expresses an "unqualified" opinion, meaning that it was a "clean" audit, or that there were no significant findings of non-compliance with accounting standards, federal reporting requirements, or internal controls. First Reading of Bill 6046,
Authorizing Execution of TAP Grant Amendments
The City has been approved for $283,461 in Transportation Alternative Funding for the construction of Phase I of the Sikeston Rail-to-Trail project. Bill 6046 authorizes the Mayor to execute TAP grant documents for receipt of these monies. The first reading of this legislation will be conducted on January 30 with final Council action anticipated on February 6. First Reading of Bill 6047,
Watami Parcel Development Agreement
Bill 6047 represents a request from Cotton Ridge Development (60 West TIF District) for approval of a Parcel Development Agreement between Cotton Ridge and Rosewood Vanguard Corporation d/b/a Watami Sushi and Hibachi Steakhouse II. The agreement assigns 50% of the TIF revenues generated from the property to the Sub-Developer up to a maximum of $ 100,000 in TIF eligible reimbursements.

Interim Appointment to DPS Advisory Board
Council has received the resignation of Bill Mitchell from the DPS Advisory Board. With this term ending in October 2018, staff is requesting an interim appointment be made. Additional information on this appointment is available at Council Agenda & Information Packet. Back to Index

Council Seeks Input on Recycling Programs
|
Public Meeting Scheduled for February 16
With the City's residential solid waste contract expiring in June, the City is exploring residents' attitudes and desires regarding recycling, trash service, and litter prevention. Residents are invited to take part in these discussions during a public meeting being held at 5 PM, February 16 at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella Drive.

Income Tax Preparation Assistance Program
|
Sikeston Public Library, 121 E. North Street, will be hosting volunteer tax preparation through AARP and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Volunteers will be at the library from noon to 4 PM each Thursday through April 13 (with the exception of April 6). The number of tax returns prepared will be limited by the number of volunteers present, training of those volunteers, and the complexity of the tax returns. Service is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and those seeking help are encouraged to have all of their paperwork present on their first visit. This will ensure more timely service.

Honors Board Nominations Accepted
|
Now through Friday, February 24, nominations will be accepted for the 2017 Honors Board installation by the Parks and Recreation Division.
Since 1986, 45 individuals have been honored by having their names installed on the Honors Board in recognition of their outstanding volunteer contributions to youth programs in the community including baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. The Honors Board is located near the Ingram Road entrance to the Recreation Complex.
Honor Board nominations will be accepted by Dustin Care, Parks & Recreation Director, at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella until 5:00 P.M., Friday, February 24. S
election of this year's honorees will be made by the Sikeston Park Board during their March 13 meeting. Up to two people may receive annual Honors Board recognition. The installation ceremony will be held in May.
