Nominations for awards to be announced at this year's conference are due
no later than May 15, 2017, 11:59 p.m. MDT, but it is not too soon to start filling out your nomination forms to avoid a last minute rush!

Community Connections Corner

This month's featured PATH Intl. Community Connections post is addressed to the Administrator Community where a member asks:
I'm working on creating short rider profiles for instructors and volunteers and wanted to see if anyone has anything already created along these lines.
For instructors: a one pager with information from rider's file to make it easier for a sub instructor teaching a new group or just a refresher. This would have the most updated information on rider information as well as riding skills so that instructor does not have to dig through file.
For volunteers: would not have any sensitive information, but would give a description of rider as far as riding skills, mounts, dismounts, seizures, what specific support the volunteer will need to give during the lesson, etc. We try to keep volunteers as consistent as possible, but as we all know it's almost virtually impossible :)
Thanks for any input or suggestions from your experience. If possible, would love to have any documents that have been created.

Website Login Problem on Google Chrome

A few people have experienced problems while attempting to log in to the PATH Intl. website on Google Chrome. Random strings of code appear near the log in box, preventing typing in the email address. This seems to be a problem with cookies and the cache. If you encounter this problem, take the steps below.
- Open your browser.
- On the top right, you'll see three vertical dots. Click it to open the dropdown menu.
- Click on More Tools. Click on Clear Browsing Data.
- Here, you can choose what you want to clear. Clear the cookies and cached images and files.
- Then click "Clear browsing data" at the bottom.
- If you choose "Browsing History," it will clear everything you have just been looking at, so make sure if you want to keep your history, leave that box unchecked.
- When you go back to the PATH Intl. page, hit "refresh."

If at First You Don't Succeed, Try, Try Again: The Mostly True Story of Prince

Once upon a time there was a beautiful palomino pony named Prince Charming. Prince was a fancy Welsh gelding, who moved like a Dressage horse twice his size. At 13.3hh and built to easily carry a full-size human, Prince was the perfect size for almost any equine-assisted activities or therapies. He could take a long swinging stride, or a short, collected step. He could jog like a Western pleasure horse, or trot quite forward like a seasoned carriage horse. He could easily wear an adult size saddle, with his nicely sprung rib cage and moderate withers (to keep the saddle from shifting) or a small lead-line saddle for a tiny tot. Quite simply, he was perfect! Except for one minor problem; he hated having anyone close to him, assisting a rider in any way during a lesson or therapy session. Read more.

PATH Intl. Mentor Training Course
This four-week mentor training course meets the requirements to become an official PATH Intl. Mentor. Quality mentorship is a key component to achieving any level or discipline of certification. This skill development program has been created in response to the need for a formalized education process to enhance the skills of those who mentor. The objective is to increase the number of qualified mentors available to instructors in training and to provide current PATH Intl. Certified Professionals with a continuing education opportunity while enhancing personal observation, evaluation and feedback skills.
Instructor Training for PATH International Equine Services for Heroes®
This course will offer instructors an understanding of basic military culture, terminology and common reasons that veterans and service members seek out EAAT. Learners will develop mindful communication skills, center policies and processes for participant assessment, planning and identifying precautions and contraindications.
The next sections of the Instructor Training for PATH International Equine Services for Heroes® online course will begin March 1st. In addition, this course is eligible for six hours of disability education and six hours of continuing education hours on your annual certification compliance. This is 12 hours total of continuing education hours.
PATH Intl. Spinal Cord Injuries, Paralysis & EAAT
This course will offer instructors an understanding of SCI conditions and how to apply this knowledge to the development of safe and effective EAAT lesson plans. Course curriculum will focus on integrating new ideas for offering a participant-centered approach to planning and facilitating EAAT.
The next section of the PATH Intl. Spinal Cord Injuries, Paralysis and EAAT online course will begin on February 7th. In addition, this course is eligible for six hours of disability education and six hours of continuing education hours on your annual certification compliance. This is 12 hours total of continuing education hours.

Registered Instructor Criteria Additions
|

The PATH Intl. Riding Certification Subcommittee and Certification Oversight have approved the following additions to the registered instructor criteria to ensure preparedness of registered instructors. The following criteria additions will be implemented January 1, 2017:
RT. 1.5 Know and practice emergency procedures, to include:
1) know and demonstrate an emergency dismount
2) know how to respond to an incident
RT. 3.2 Develop a lesson plan which includes:
1) a riding skill
2) a measurable objective related to the stated riding skill
RT. 3.3 Incorporate lesson activities suitable to the objective in the lesson plan
Competency of RT. 1.5 will be verified by the PATH Intl. Certified Riding Professional supervising the candidate's teaching hours and the following statement on the "Documentation of Group Teaching Hours" form must be completed by the supervising instructor:
I, ________________________, (PATH Intl. Certified Riding Professional's Printed Name) verify that ________________________ (Candidate's Printed Name)
has practiced emergency response procedures, including demonstration of an emergency dismount.
All candidates who submit an instructor application and begin teaching hours after January 1, 2017, will be required to submit the updated "Documentation of Group Teaching Hours" form with the above statement.
Competency of RT. 3.2 and RT. 3.3 will be assessed by trained PATH Intl. Evaluators as part of the teaching component of certification.
Advanced and master instructor candidates are expected to demonstrate mastery of the registered instructor criteria and, therefore, will also be evaluated on aptitude of these additional criteria.
